I think one of my guys is teething. He's crying uncontrollably, eating his hands, he's been waking up at all hours of the night and drooling enough to fill a small pond.

How much tylenol should I give him? He's 4 months and about 16 lbs.

Is this what you recommend? I tried orajel and teething rings but they didn't seem to work. He just licks the teething ring!

I would definitely give Tylenol a try. Motrin can be given AFTER 6 months. The correct dosage should be on the back of the Infants Tylenol bottle. I hope he is feeling better soon!

I think all the Tylenol bottle tells you is Under 2 - Consult Dr. But according to a chart from my pedi, you should give .8ml (or a dropperful) for that age/weight every 4-6 hours.

    Good Luck!

Just wanted to chime in here to say that my ped said the same -- for my DS, who was 13lbs at 4.5 months, she recommended 0.8ml of the infant tylenol. Hope things settle down!

Elizabeth is 5 months and about 14 lbs. and her dose is just over .8 of the infant tylenol drops. So yours should be about the same. Motrin is only for over 6 months and I've been told not to use orajel this young b/c it can numb their gag reflex. I give Elizabeth a dose of tylenol about 30 mintues before bedtime and sometimes redose once during the night to help with her teething pain. HTH :)

Thanks for the heads up re: Orajel. I gave it to him and he HATED it. It actually made him cry harder. I'll stick to the Tylenol for now!

I'd give him a minimum dosage before bed (says on side of Tempra bottle - that's what Baby Tylenol is called in Canada) if he's had a fussy day. I did that with James a few times. I also wet a face cloth and pop it in the freezer for a few hours then give him that to naw on - he really likes it.

I have a dosing chart from my ped. and for 12-17 lbs. it says 1 dropper full.
