We cut our teeth early in this family. I got my first teeth at 4 months, and Roman and Joel seem headed that way also. They are too young to hold teething toys in their mouths, (although Joel is getting better at it).

Last night, Roe screamed and screamed and screamed. I gave him tylenol and just held him while he screamed until he finally wore himself out. He kept pushing his pacifiers out of his mouth and shoving his hands in, screaming the whole time. :( He wouldn't eat well, and when I would try to get him to latch on, he would bite. I know it could be months before we see the first teeth, but he's definitely in some pain.

What can I do for him? Besides just the tylenol? Should I keep trying to give him teething toys?

:hug99: to poor Roe. One thing that seemed to work the best for my girls were Hyland Teething tablets. They dissolve in their mouth and numb it all over. At 4mos I would probably moisten them a little in my hand and then rub the paste on his gums since he probably still has a strong tongue reflex.

I hope those teeth break on through and he feels better soon.

I'm a new firm believer in Teething Tablets as well. LOVE THEM. They work so much better than Orajel. I also use Ibuprofen, but your little guy is too young for that (I don't think Tylenol works worth a darn).

I prefer Hylands over Humphreys but you can get either at Walgreens. I'd run out & get some...you'll be amazed!

Baby Orejel works great for my girls - it numbs the gum area. You can get it at Targe, Walmart, BRU - pretty much anywhere. I highly recommend it. It kicks in pretty quickly.

Try wetting the corner of a washcloth, and then freezing it....he might have an easier time holding this in his mouth.

Another tip I read awhile ago was to put some bottle nipples upside down in an ice cube tray, freeze some water in them, and then put them on a bottle and let the baby suck/chew on that -- it will numb the gums. You can hold the bottle in his mouth for a few minutes....

We use the Hyland's tablets, too.

thanks ladies--I'm going to try some of these tips. I can see the two bottom teeth through the gums--they don't look like they are close to coming through, but the poor baby is drooling a lot and can't get enough of his hand in his mouth!!!

Joel has just barely started drooling and feasting on his hand. Actually, the other day he got his arm out of his swaddle during a nap and gave himself a row of hickies from his forearm to his elbow. Flexible!

I have been doing frozen facecloths which work the best, definitely better than the teething rings which the girls just lick! And I have been doing the hylands teething tablets too, I didnt want to keep giving them tylenol and the tablets seem to be helping.

    Good luck!
