    Hi,

Can teething pain get worse by night?

    Thanks.

Doctors and a lot of books say they don't wake at night from teething. They might have an earache if they are waking in pain at night. My girls have been teething for awhile now and don't wake from naps or night sleeping from it.

I think anything that causes pain is worse at night. If you think about it, when your quiet & not busy doing anything is when you tend to notice pain the most & I'm sure babies are the same.

I believe it does get worse at night, I can't remember the reason behind it but it has something to do with them laying on their back for a longer period. With my first son he would only "complain" at night or during naps when he was teething. He would be fine all day long and then at night he would be a mess! A lot of doctors will also tell you that teething doesn't cause ear aches, but ask any mom and they will tell you differently!!!

I agree, when my kiddos are really suffering from teething, I will give them Motrin (for over 6 months) and some teething tablets to help them out overnight.

I don't know that the pain gets worse at night. I think they just notice it more. We give Motrin or Tylenol, as needed.

Night sleeping has definitely been harder since hardcore teething has set in with my LO's. I give them teething tablets and Tylenol or Motrin before they go to bed and I've had to re-dose the Tylenol here and there if they wake up really crying. It settles them down and I don't hear anything from them till morning so I figure it must have been hurting. I agree it may be they might just notice it more because they're not busy.
