My lo's are 14 months and dd is waking in the middle of the night several times. We've tried comforting, and CIO again but it is still happening. SHe still naps in the am and pm fine. she wakes up in the am at around 6-6:30, and goes down around 7:30-8 at night. DS sleeps fine at night but is awakened early in the am by DD. He has some breakthrough in his naps but always goes back to sleep. I just dont know what to do about DD waking in the night. I cant just go in and pat her back, she is screaming and carrying on. She only want me to pick her up, it is just worse if I go in. If I try and lay her back down she immediately jumps back up and the screaming is worse... We tried CIO this past weekend and week and it is not working! SHe isnt crying as long or as often but she is still waking and crying. It makes me feel sooooo bad! I'm about to bring her into bed with me. I just cant take much more. HELP!!!!

All kids are different, but when my guys start night-waking it's never about naps; it's always something else like teething, milestones, bad dreams, etc. Jack had a huge rash of these night-wakings from about 10 months to 13 months. We thought we were going to die from sleep-deprivation! CIO never worked for Jack (neither did bringing him into bed with us; he wouldn't sleep), and it took a long while to figure out how to overcome this.

What we did was give him (and Nate) a nightly pep-talk about how nighttime is for sleeping, Mama and Dada need sleep, if you wake we're right across the way but you can close your eyes and go back to sleep, etc. My family thinks I'm nuts, but I swear he started going back to STTN that night and didn't night-wake for months! He still is my worse sleeper. Just last night he woke up in the middle of the night and it took us 3 tries to get him settled, but normally if he wakes it's just 5 minutes of rocking and me telling him "Mama needs sleep so you need to go back into your crib" and he'll go down without a peep. :)

I would also look at any external factors like changes in temperature, strange shadows, noises (is the AC going on in the middle of the night?). Try some Motrin before bed to eliminate teething. Is DD working on any milestones like walking or talking? This can cause night-waking as well.

I hope you figure it out soon and that this is just a short phase for you!!

I totally agree with Valerie!! Mine didn't wake from teething or naps in the middle of nights. It was always due to a new milestone, bad dream or something was wrong. I hope it passes soon!

:LOL!! yeah I think your nuts, but I'll try anything! PEP talk tonight! She has been walking since 10 months so she is probably trying to talk and she is teething, so is her brother but it doesnt bother him right now! CIO worked when they were younger but this is obviously not about being able to put herself to sleep!
