my LO has one of his top teeth coming in. (incisor). it's his first tooth!! we do tylenol during the day and some orajel and i seems ok. last night he got sick and did not get his motrin and woke up very early (6 instead of his usual 8). he's been a little fussy and i was wondering once the tooth looks like it's about to cut, how long until it actually does?
as of right now his gum looks like it has a slit in it.

K's first tooth was really swollen for about 5 days and looked white. Then one day, I put my finger in to check and it was sharp as a razor! Those few days before it erupted through the skin definitely weren't the worse teething days for us though.

It can take a bit for that tooth to come in. How about a frozen washcloth to chew on? I hope it comes in soon.

For us, once that "slit" appeared it only takes a few days for the tooth to drop in. That slit I think is actually like a blister (from the gum swelling) that kind of scabs over before the tooth cuts through. My DS actually has two right now, teeth #5 and 6 that we have been waiting on for a long time to come in. At least I now know it's really about to happen for him. GL and I hope your lo feels better soon.

For us it depended on the tooth. Some of their teeth did not cause any fussiness and others the were fussy until the entire tooth came in which can take weeks.

I'm on the opposite end and were waiting for Josh's last two 2 year molars. The first two came in at the same time. He was fussy but it only lasted about a week. These last two are taking forever to come in. Jake got all his at the same time and although he was extremly fussy, he is done with teething.

On really bad days, I will give them motrin and tylenol and that seems to help with the pain.

Good Luck and congrats on the first tooth!

Congratulations on the 1st tooth! For us it depended on the tooth. Some teeth seemed like they appeared overnight and others took a few days to come in.

I've seen it take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. I hope it comes in soon for him!
