Anyone have experience with one of their toddlers getting an extra tooth? I swear Blake is getting an extra one! He has a dental appointent set for January for his first ever dentist visit, but I am wondering if I should take him in now? Ironically, there is a space for the tooth, (but I have looked in his mouth a ton of times and definitely determined it is an extra one!) They all lined up but now they don't! My only concern is that I am afraid it might start pushing his other teeth. It doesn't look like an adult tooth and I am pretty sure they won't do anything like pull it as long as it is coming straight down, which it is.

Anyway, just though I'd ask if anyone has had experience with this.

    Thanks.

Sounds possible. I wonder if they will do anything? If it is his permanent tooth coming in, probably not. I would try and get an earlier appt if at all possible. A lot can change in a two months (movement-wise of the teeth).

Ben has two teeth that are fused together into one large tooth. When he was teething, it looked so wierd. I thought that they were just really close together. But after we saw a pediatric dentist around 18 mos., he told us that indeed they were fused together. Just wanted to share my son's freaky tooth story so that you did not feel alone! ;)

ETA: Sounds like a supernumerary tooth (see here in Wikepedia).

I would probably change your dentist appt. and get it checked out earlier just in case. It can be his party trick - "want to see my extra tooth???" :)

We don't have an extra tooth, but Regan is missing one of hers. Her right upper biscuspid has never come in. She had some trauma to this area when she was teething and we haven't seen it since. The pediatric dentist said to not worry about it. It could show up when she is 3 or never. Who knows! Also, I found out that my brother and grandmother don't have the same tooth. I never knew it until I was concerned about Regan not having it.
