Tattoos

My twins will be two next week. One has discovered the huge lion on my back and likes to see it. How have others handled your little ones with tattoos? How do you explain them?

 

My sweet Bella just discovered a couple of small tattoos on our new mommy friend (who also has twins!) And tried to pick them off like stickers! LOL... We didn't really explain in detail what they were, we just said 'that's not a sticker silly Bella, it's a tattoo'....then laughed! Cause it was too funny watching her try to pick it off. My girls are 23 months, but a little behind so I don't think they understand quite what I said. Are they asking what they are? Maybe find a couple pictures online of kid friendly (hehe) tattoos and show them as you explain? I dunno, I can't remember how I explained my 2 on my back to my oldest (shes 7) or how old she was at the time:/ Maybe you could tell them it's mommy's body art, and some adults like to get
them when they're old enough, but that they are forever, and that's why only adults can get them, cause they have to be sure and ready? LOL.... I don't know.
Let me know what you tell them, I may have to explain mine soon! LOL

we just told them they were tattoos and they were okay with that. sometimes they ask to see mine.

I just told them what tattoos are, and that they're only for grownups, and they can get some when they're all grown up if they want to. They just took it in stride - it was so not a big deal!

 

That's what we did too.

Now they have the temporary tattoos that they're allowed to use, when they want them, and they know that they aren't the same as our tattoos.

 

This is what I intend to do as well.

 

Feeling dumb! Duh they are only for grown-ups! Thanks. I got mine so young, that I don't think I was really a grown up!

Same here; we told them they were tattoos and you had to be an adult to get a real tattoo. Every once in awhile they put stickers on their arms and say I have a tattoo like daddy, but we haven't gotten to the temporary tattoo stage yet.

I kind of think of it like earrings or piercings, not everyone has them, but they are common so why not honestly explain what they are with the condition of you are able to get them at a certain age.
