I rented an old Shirley Temple movie from the library b/c we watched them all when I was a kid; not really thinking the kids would enjoy it much. Well, dd has just fallen in love with "Curly Top"!! Every time she sees her dance, she asks me "Can I do that?" and runs and gets her tap shoes which are 10 sizes too big. :) She even was holding her foot up to the tv tonight, shouting at the screen "Curly! Curly! I have shoes like you!!"

Is it too young for tap dance lessons?? I tried to teach her the 1 step I remember from a kid, but she had a hard time with it. Perhaps b/c the shoes are so big, I'm not sure. I know her PT is always encouraging us to do any kind of physical activity to strengthen her, but I don't know if she'd be ready for this.

My b/g twins are 3yrs and they do both tap and ballet. They love it and do really well. I would definately (sp) recommend it.
We have our first recital in may, I can not wait and neither can the twins.
They like tap the best cuz they love their clicky shoes (this is what they call them)

My DD has been in tap/ballet since just before she was 3. She started with the dance class at "The Little Gym" and LOVED it! TLG in our community closed down last year, so she's now in a jazz/tap class at a dance studio and they are equally fabulous. If your DD is showing an interest, I wouldn't hesitate to enroll her. I would call around and visit with the instructors at the studios to find you you're comfortable with. My DH and I were real hesitant to enroll her in a studio because we've seen recitals where the little girls were in outfits a little too sexy for the age, and doing moves we also thought were too sexy. And my DH is about as far from a prude as a guy can get . . . !

The studio we chose does not allow the parents to watch the class except for two previously scheduled classes for the whole year! That was hard, but has turned out to be the best! Even thought my DD is extremely confident and independent, when she took classes at TLG, she could see me and was constantly running over to me and having a hard time focusing on the teacher instead of me. It could be that she's just matured a bit over the year, but we haven't had a problem at all this year with any of the moms being in a waiting room right outside the studio.

Again, I would say go for it! If it turns out she's not ready, you can just take her out and try again later (although, I would give it at least 4-6 classes before you decide to withdraw her). Good luck and have fun!

My girls have been in tap since September. SIL is their dance teacher. They love it! Next year they'll be in ballet as well. They just love coming home and showing me all the new steps they've learned and the past few days they've been talking about getting their costumes next week and showing us the dance. I highly recommend it.

BTW, I found great deals on leotards and tights at dancewearsolutions.com. Last time I checked they had Balera tights for 3.45 a pair.

Hannah started ballet/tap at age 3. We did it through our local YMCA. So cute!

We started the week Hannah turned three! She loves it, but is terribly uncoordinated at it!

We just started tap/ballet lessons too, they'll be 3 in May. They're so shy so it was hard for them at first, but the instructor is really good with them and they seem to be getting it. If nothing else it's helped them over some of their shyness. They love their clicky shoes too!

Definitely not too young! My girls started a toddler time ballet class at 2, and this studio has a combined ballet tap class for 3 year old's, but there are a couple of girls in the class slightly younger than that.

You would be surprised how much they pick up after going to just a few classes!!
