After a C-Section, is it okay to go ahead and use Tampons instead of pads?

I H-A-T-E pads and have used the Instead Cups and plan on switching to a Diva Cup at some point. I prefer tampons to pads though.... just curious because I want to go ahead and be prepared!

    THANKS!

Unfortunately no. That is what I was told. I used those new Maxi's that are ultra-thin, thay are still terrible but not as terrible as the ones the hospital will give you.

My docs have aalways recommended pads. . . Seems to me the tampons would cause the lochia to take longer to move out of the body, acting more like a plug. Maybe I'm wrong!

  4. My doctor told me no tampons until my 6 week appt.... sorry

Tampons are not recommended. I think there is a concern that it will drastically increase your chance of Toxic Shock Syndrome and infections, plus lochia can be... um... pretty (TMI!) chunky so tampons wouldn't work for that. I used ultra thin overnight pads and they worked pretty good. If you are into reusable menstrual protection they do sell washable cloth pads.

I will ditto PJ! No tampons and love my diva cup!! :) I still like the Insteads, and use them if I am out and about on a heavy day, but Diva Cups are awesome!

(I two c-sections, and tampons were strictly prohibited, sorry!)

Just had my 7th c-section 4 weeks ago, and the other posters are correct.........NO tampons, only pads until after your 6 week doctor appointment (and once, I had the doctor tell me to wait longer than the 6 weeks....I cannot remember exactly why now though).

The things that we have to deal with.......GROSS.......hate the pads too!!!

same as everyone else said. but i wanted to tell you i was all worried about the heavy flow afterwards, and for the first day its sorta bad. maybe a few large clots and gushes when you stand up, but really, mine is VERY VERY light and i change the pad once a day, and its hardly even messy or filled. i could probably get away with a liner. i guess each person is different..

I was told nothing can be put inside until after your 6 week apt. I hate pads too, but I am dealing.

Okay - that means I need to go ahead and buy pads. I just didn't want to buy them if I could get out of it.

And BTW - I WILL be using a DivaCup when I can. I've read so much about them and between the environment, a septic tank, and cost savings.... DivaCup it is!
