Sofia has taken to referring to herself by name. "Sofia doesn't want to do that" etc., ect. Does anyone else have a kids that does this? I try to correct her, but it's not really working.

Um, we haven't actually gotten to FIRST person yet. They will say "ME" occassionally, but if I were to ask a question, "Who wants to go to the park?" They would both point to themselves and say their own name.

My girls do this- actually they started with 3rd person and now sort of use a mix....of "me, you, their name, and I" ! It is funny trying to figure it all out! I wouldnt worry too much and wait and see if it improves.

Neither of mine do that, but Sarah still uses "my" for everything relating to herself -- I, me, mine, my, etc. My guess is that Sofia is just playing around with thinking of herself as if she were someone else (if that makes sense). Maybe it's some kind of unconscious coping mechanism for when she is feeling out of control? Just speculating wildly.... Toddlers and preschoolers are such a mystery.

Maggie did that for a while - maybe 2 weeks? Then she got over it and was done. I did ask one of her daycare teachers at the time, and they said it's just a phase, and actually a good thing since after that phase they normally start using most pronouns correctly (or typically that happened).

Do you refer to yourself as such when talking to her? I noticed that my kids eventually stopped referring to themselves by name, when I stopped saying stuff like "mommy will get it for you." Although my DD did do it for a while longer, but she gave up eventually, as she spoke more and more. HTH

Omigosh our Sarah SOOOOOOO did this! And on occasion, even now at age 6 she will resurrect the habit (usually for theatrical effect though now). In its earliest manifestations, we would re-say the sentence using the correct pronoun with her. Not in a "that was wrong" tone so much as the same way we would repeat a sentence correcting tense or pronunciation.

Her brother NEVER did it even once. Go figure.

Even if your girl doesn't "change" her phrasing, in your shoes I'd likely keep reinforcing the pronoun use. (It DOES get tiresome, I feel for you! ;) )
But no, you're not alone. :)

Ben ONLY refers to himself in the third person. Hannah does both. I figure they will learn in time. For now it is one of those things that I let slide because I think it is so cute.

Mine do this, they use I, me, mine, and third person regularly.

Both of mine did it for a long time, and are just starting to outgrow it. They still don't quite have all the pronoun usage down properly. Like Bea says "Ainsley putting on she's shoes." They also still refer to themselves as "my" sometimes, like "My want a snack." Sometimes I correct it, like I'll repeat the sentence back with the proper phrasing, most of the time I just let it go.

She's really good at her pronouns. She uses I , me , he & she appropriately. It's been in the past couple weeks or so that she has started using Sofia in place of I, and even then it's only sometimes and not consistently.

Occasionally mine will refer to themselves in the 3rd person. What gets me though is when Katelyn says, "My name is not Katelyn- call me Rachel!" Okay, Rachel! :unknw: Funny thing is, we don't know any Rachel's and I have no idea where she learned this!?

OMG...that is so darn cute! I think you need to show them our pictures more often... after all they need to get to know their future spouses!
