Tag-along Bikes for Kids

For those of you who have the tag-along bikes for your kids, at what age did you get them? Our DD is almost 3 and we were planning to get one for her. But now DH is hesitant. She's pretty coordinated and can pedal a bike, I don't think there would be an issue with her falling off.

 

I've been looking into this myself, but from what I've read and from talking to people who actually have them, I think age 3 is pretty early. For one thing, my 3-year-olds are probably not tall enough yet. The bikes aren't sized for kids that age (the few I looked at online said "ages 4-6"). Also, even if my kids could pedal a bike reliably and didn't fall off their own bikes that often, I would be very wary of going faster and having them back there where I couldn't see them. They're a lot higher off the ground, too.

So, I'm thinking of trying it around age 4. But in the meantime, I want to get them out on their own bikes more often so they can start learning the rules of the road (or at least the rules of the bike path, since I don't plan to take them anywhere near traffic for quite some time).

 

I'm also really curious about these. Maybe the PC would be a better place to ask, if 4 is kind of the bottom limit in age.

 

What's a tag a long bike????

 

My sister has one for me that was my niece's, so I looked up the age ranges on them to see if maybe I should get the second one for this summer. But they are for ages 4 and up.

Thanks! I thought that's what you meant! I always called them tandem bikes.

I would say 4 for something like that. My guy did start biking at 3 but he had an 8" wheel bike, which is super small. Their legs are probably not tall enough for the tag-along.
