So we leave next Thursday for LA to visit DH parents! They were both able to come visit when they kids were REALLY little so this trip is mainly for DH's Grandma. She isn't able to travel as well as she used to so we're making the trek down south to visit her AND get some much needed sunshine! :) You'd think with the amount of suposed 'daylight' we get that there would be some sun in there, but no...not this summer. So it should be good times for everyone! We're going to be there for a week so we're ONLY planning on hanging out at the IL's (they have a pool!), visiting an aquarium and maybe squeezing in a quick trip to the beach if possible. Great GM is definately looking foward to showing off her first great-grandchildren so we're hoping they dont make too poor a showing :) I'm sure it will be the first great trip of many! :icon_biggrin:

I'm actually looking foward to it all...the kids are still entertained (for the most part) by just looking around at people and being outside, so I hope I don't jinx myself but it seems like a good age to travel with them. The only 'downer' is that we can't bring our 'first-born' furbaby with us...Nellie loves to visit the IL's but flying with her AND TWINS...I don't think so! Oh well, its only a week and I'm sure she'll actually enjoy a week without all of us

Hi! I'm from AK too (Anchorage). We flew for the first time with the boys at 4 1/2 months from ANC to Chicago. They did fine...and I think this age (mine are just a few weeks older than yours...6 months and 2 weeks), it is a great time to travel!

Just make sure to feed at take off and landing (or use a pacifier, I guess) and they will be fine. We were prepared with 20 pairs of earplugs, just in case...and they did not make one peep the entire time, yet they barely slept.

Are you and your husband sitting across the aisle from eachother? Did you buy seats for them? We did not buy seats, just sat across the aisle from eachother since they would not let us both sit in one row (or one 'section' of one row) because of the air masks.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that there is an empty seat next to you! That helps with logistics and setting gear down. We got to the airport early and they "blocked" the seat next to both my husband and I off. Although this does not guarantee an empty seat, it did work for us both on the Seattle to Chicago flight. Chicago to Anchorage, however, was delayed 3 hours, then another 2 while we were ON THE PLANE (yuck!!). And...the plane was completely packed. We were inside that plane for well over 8 hours. It was NOT fun, but the boys did very well! (besides puking ALL over me and the seat mid-flight).

    You'll do great!!!!!!!

Our babies are only a few days apart. We are leaving Tuesday for Florida to go to Disney. I can't wait but am a little worried about them on the flight.

    Have fun on your trip!

TWINSINAK - For the flight we bought a third seat for a car seat (AK Air doesn't do the half price child seat anymore, what a bummer!) and reserved the whole bulkhead row coming and going...that should make things easier for tandem BF them; we'll just trade off holding the one without a carseat. We also got a direct flight to Seattle from Stika on the way down, which doesn't happen often, only in the summer when there are tons of charter fishermen in town. On the way back we have the 'milk run' (HA!) stopping in Ketchikan but it still shouldn't be too bad. I hope it all works out!

I bet your babies will do great! I flew with my DS1 at 5 months and he was fantastic, he just flirted with everyone on the plane, no crying and we went from baltimore to LA. One friend brought a bag of miniture candy bars and handed them out to all the passengers near by before take off, how could anyone be annoyed when you butter them up from the get go :D (Don't know if you can do that with all the flight restrictions these days)
Good luck - I was in Sitka once - playing a basketball game against the local college their - it was really pretty!

Have a great time! We are trying to plan a trip out to N. Ireland to visit my in-laws in the next couple of months, so I hope to hear how well your trip went....

Oh, and my two LOVE the aquarium! We took them to the one in Brooklyn here and they were just FASCINATED! Mouths and eyes wide open! Enjoy!
