Hi all. I'm curious if any one has experience with swollen labia. My labia was swollen a few weeks ago just fo a day. And know it's swollen again. My doctor said it's probably just from the pressure of the babies. Like when you put a rubber band around our finger. I'm 32 weeks.

Glad you posted as I was to shy to ask! I have felt very bruised and swollen on and off. Some days I get up and it feels like have been beaten with a baseball bat. I was going to ask my ob next time I went in. I thought it might just be the pressure and the weight. I never expereinced anything like this wiht my singleton.Maybe it is the increased blood flow to the area. Not sure, but I will keep reading this thread to find out whether anyone else has any info regarding this somewhat sensitive matter!

No advice, just saying I'm there with ya. I think it's pressure from the babies.

Okay, okay, I'll respond :FIFblush: I wonder if it's anything like what I've had with all of my pgs. I noticed it first with DS at around 5 months. Before that time I felt like I had pulled a muscle in my groin area, until around 5 months when it turned into a full blown varicose vein on my labia. It got progressively worse and I was mortified. My mw assured me it would go away after delivery and that it was just the extra pressure from my uterus. She was right. It went away immediately after (well, within a wk or so, I think). I brought it up to my sister and my mother and they both had the same thing. Honestly it was mortifying. I had it with DD, too.

Fast forward to this pg and I already have it. That's not a good sign! Every time I stand up it hurts bc all of the blood pools to that one area, then you add the pressure of the uterus (since I'm measuring about 5 months pg) and I can sometimes barely stand it. This may not be the same thing and I could be totally embarassing myself here, lol, but at least others won't feel alone if it *is* affecting them :FIFblush:

yes - but you don't necessarily need to just live with it! I just had surgery, and ended up with swelling in that are SO badly that I couldn't walk. It was miserable. If it isn't a varicrose vein, more just like edema of the labia, wear stretchy underwear - snug enough to keep a bit of pressure on the area. It worked within 3 days for me and I haven't had a problem since. Sleep in them at first, and then once the swelling is down just wear them during the day.

I came up with the idea because people w/ swolen feet wear "compression stockings" to keep it at bay, so I came up with "compression underwear". OK, I was desparate. But it worked!!!

Yes, I have this... and I thought I was the only one...I couldn't believe it when I saw the post. I feel so much better now!! Even my sister, who is a labor and delivery nurse thought it looked unusual!!! But my doc just said it's from all the pressure of the twins (I'm 27 weeks now) I have a really bad varicose vein down there. I think I had it in previous pregnancies but just didn't realize that's what the pressure was from. BUT this time with twins, it started bothering me at about 12 weeks. I knew that I was in trouble then. My doctor actually prescribed the full length maternity compression stockings (from toes to belly) and that seems to help (even though they are awfully uncomfortable.) I really do rely on them to get me through the day. Also, my doctor prescribed this thing called the V-2 supporter which is a compression garment (almost like compression underwear like the previous person mentioned). It is hysterical actually....it looks pretty much like a jock strap, but it does help. So by the time I put on my undies, stockings and "jock strap" I can't even really feel if I have pants on!!!!! I actually was standing at the gas station the other day on my way to work and I thought, " Oh my goodness, Did I put my pants on????" I was very relieved to look down and see that I had. All in all though, these two things really do help with the swelling and varicosities....it still hurts... but it's getting me by!!!!

I have the V2 supporter as well as thigh high compression hose. I had lots of pressure around 13-17 weeks, but now it's totally gone and I don't even wear the jock strap (V2 Supporter)! LOL Hopefully yours will go away as well. I wouldn't be surprised though if it comes back as I get bigger and I need to wear it again.

You sure have made me feel better, too! The only help I've found (except it doesn't help) is the suggestion of wearing a couple of pads in your underwear. Even my mw doesn't like that idea due to the increased risk of infection bc of lack of "breathing" down there :) I'll ask her about those hose. I just saw maternity Spanks recently online and thought maybe those would help. Where did you get your hose?

I think I have this too! Thank you ladies for all sharing, so now I don't feel silly sharing! I am 21 weeks and one of my girls is laying extremely low across my abdomen. It has come and gone over the past 2 weeks or so. I actually made my husband look one night because it was so uncomfortable I wasn't sure what was going on down there. I'm sure he was overly thrilled, but he took a quick peek and said I looked swollen. It seems to happen the most if I am on my feet for a long period of time and goes away if I rest or overnight or am off my feet. So now I don't feel silly and probably can avoid asking my doctor what I feel is an embarassing question!

I'm not sure what kind of insurance you have and if they are covered, but my doc just wrote a prescription for both the hose and the V-2 Supporter (this is made by Prenatal Cradle.. http://www.prenatalcradle.com) I took the prescription to a local pharmacy that has medical equipment. I just had to call around. The maternity stockings are pricey..like around $125 dollars for the full length ones and the V-2 supporter is around $50. So insurance is the way to go if you can. Mine were both covered 100%.
