I just noticed that my ankles have swollen today. I mentioned it to DH and he definitely agrees. They are not huge but definitely swollen so that I can barely see my ankle bones (which is usually very easy to spot). Is this any cause for worry? This is my 3rd pregnancy and not something I have encountered in the past. I am not sure what it means? I have a doc appt on Wednesday but maybe I should call them tomorrow and let them know? Or is it not that big of a deal?

I see by your ticker that you are 34 weeks and when I was that far along in my pregnancy, I always had swollen ankles. My OB told me that they would be concerned if the swelling did not go down when I would put my legs up. I would say to prop them up when you can and if you are still concerned definitely mention it at your next appointment. Good luck!

I agree with Nancy. :good: My ankles were always swollen at this point of the pregnancy and most of the time putting my feet up worked.

Mine swelled terribly with the twin pregnancy. My hands and feet would be swollen and tingly. It was a combination of fluid and carpal tunnel. The OB said as long as my BP was good and elevation helped it was normal. I would say that as long as you are feeling normal otherwise it is just part of the fun, but if you feel any other symptoms or are concerned a phone call can never hurt. GL.

At that point I had nicknamed my CANKLES "Fred and Barney" and while this can be a sign of pre-E, you are probably fine. They had me go to the pool and float around for about 30-40 a day to get the fluid back into the sacks. But in the end my blood pressure shot up without warning at 36 weeks and they induced me.

This was right around the time where my ankles got swollen on a regular basis. Try to keep off of your feet as much as possible :) Lol, like PP said, I called them CANKLES as well

I had the same thing with both of my pregnancies. This one is a little less because I went out of work before my due date. What I use is special socks. I think that they are called compression hose. My sister got them at an orthepedic store. I call them my grandma socks. I can totally tell the difference if I don't wear them. Good Luck.

By 34 weeks I was getting very swollen everywhere but definitely in the ankles. They tested me religiously for pre-e and all that but I was fine. Just retained a ton of water I guess. I finally de-swelled a week or 2 after delivery. I would definitely have them keep an eye on it and if if you have pitting edema I'd call them to find out if they want you to come in. I think it's a twin thing - SO many different things in the twin pregnancy than singleton for me. Drink plenty of water and rest with your legs up as much as possible.
