Did any of you switch to milk before 12 months? I'm having a hard time getting Abby to drink formula from her bottle or sippy. She'll take a sip and spit it out. Do you think it's time to switch to milk? I know some of my friends have gone to milk before 12 months, but I'd like some other opinions. It's become so stressful trying to get any formula in her. She might drink a couple ounces out of a bottle, but that's it. I give her the sippy at all meals and she'll do ok with it, but I still don't think she's drinking enough. She does eat pretty well. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Christie

We switched early, 9 months to be exact (with peds permission). They preferred the milk over the formula, and I also found that they preferred to drink out of their sippies all day long instead of drinking a whole bottle at a time. They were off bottles by 11 months. So, maybe a combo of the sippies and regular milk may work for you? My ped recommended 16-20oz of milk for 9+ months and up.

we just made the switch this month and now we are also 95% on sippies. What a difference. I felt like such a slave to those bottles.

The girls are doing very well. They actually seem to prefer the regular whole milk to the formula.

We made the switch at 11 months because we were travelling when they were one but they did well with it and actually liked milk more then formula. I know our ped. said that one month is not a huge deal. Good luck!!

I would think it's worth a shot. We introduced milk (mixing it with formula) at about 11.5 months. Good luck!

We started putting whole milk in their formula, and weaning them that way. They did great with whole milk, and two weeks ago we took a weekend and stopped bottles all together, they didn't even notice!!! They drink out of their sippy cups One 8oz milk sippy w/ breakfast, and One 8oz milk sippy w/ dinner, all the rest of the day, ice water. Seems to be working just fine!

We switched to whole milk during the day around 10 1/2 - 11 mos (any sippy had milk, whereas bottles had formula). Then, at 11 1/2 mos, we dropped bottles so they were solely on milk. At our 1 yr appt, the Ped said that was fine (after the fact, whoops!). Mine definitely prefered milk over formula (who wouldn't?). We did add vanilla Pediasure to Aiden's for a while to increase his intake, but by 13 mos, we had weaned him of that.

Good luck with your transition! Mine did perfect, no upset tummies or anything!

we started the transition at 11.5 months but it was closer to 13 before we were off formula completely. Do they eat a wide variety of solid foods, cows milk doesn't have as many nutrients as formula so you want to be sure they are eating a variety of foods once you make the switch.

She is a great eater, so I think she should be ok with just milk. I gave her a sippy at lunch today and she drank half of it. I still have a can of formula, so I'll probably stop formula once it's gone. I'll be so happy to be done with formula and bottles. I'm keeping Ellie on Nutramigen until her doctor's appt., since she has a dairy allergy. The allergist said she'll probably have her go on soy milk. We'll see how it goes. Thanks!!!

My ped had us switch at 11 1/2 months. At the 12 month check up, they do an iron test to make sure everything is OK, and he wants their body off formula to make sure they are doing well on their "own".

Our Ped had us switch as 9 months as neither wanted to drink formula anymore. At that time we switched to milk in straw cups at meals times and water between meals. It was a great change to make and the babies did well with it.
