My girls are about to be 11 months old and for the past month they have been having cottage cheese, yogurt and regular cheese for snacks and lunch. Before their 1st birthday we are flying over to the opposite coast, to visit family for three weeks to celebrate. I really don't want to take a bunch of formula with us. I was thinking about starting to switch slowly, to cow's milk. They don't seem to have a problem digesting dairy. I was going to start adding 1 oz. the first week, then 2 oz. the second week and so on, so that when it's time for us to travel, we don't have to mix bottles and take a bunch of formula.

When did everyone start switching and how did you do it?? I don't want to compromise their health at all, and will take formula of course if it's better for them. Any advice???

I switched my babies at 11 months with no problem. We did it pretty much cold turkey, but still in bottles.

Same with us...I think my daughter mixed a couple of half and half bottles and then switched. It didnt cause any problems and they didnt seem to notice. This was during their 11th month. Make sure to use whole milk of course.

We swictched our girls at 12 mo- Not exactly cold turkey, though. I started with one bottle a day of whole milk, just to ease them into it. The problem was, they didn't want it when they were getting formula at other times. I think mine noticed the taste difference, so after a couple weeks trying that way, then we switched to all whole milk cups, and they did fine. After about 3 days they didn't seem to notice at all. In the interim, I just made sure they got lots of water and calcium snacks. Good luck.

We switched at 11 1/2 months per the peds instructions. We did cold turkey--warm formula in bottles one day to cold milk in sippies the next and never looked back! Mine really didn't get sippies until the bottles were gone either.

We switched at 9 months per peds advice, and I did roughly 1/2 and 1/2 the first couple of days and then switched them completely. Good luck and have fun on your trip!

we switched them 3 weeks shy of their first birthday. We did an ounce at a time (mixed with their formula of course) and added another ounce every 3 days or so. My girls were also eating a lot of dairy foods so I think that helped them to adjust and adding an ounce at a time I think is the best way to slowly adjust their bodies so they don't get constipated. We never had any constipation issues with the switch. Also, I think it helps them to adjust to the taste.

I just switched ours at 11 mos. and we never had a problem.....they thought it tasted better than formula so they loved it.

11 months for us. I alternated bottles - one formula and the next milk - then soon after switched to all milk in cups...we had no problems. Good luck!

I already switched my guys two weekends ago. They did fine. I just stopped using formula cold turkey as well. Have fun on your trip!
