My son Ryan has reflux, I'm going to start him on Alimentum tomorrow. How long should it take before we see improvement? Thanks!

We currently have DS on Nutramigen (Enfamil's version of hypoallergenic, lactose-free formula.) DS was diagnosed with severe reflux at 2 months and was prescribed Prevacid by the pedi. It lessened the reflux symptoms quite dramatically, but he was still obviously uncomfortable, just not nearly as bad as before the medication. So we went back to the pedi, and she suspected a milk protein intolerance and put DS on Nutramigen, still keeping him on the Prevacid. She said to give it 5 days to see if he improved, but he improved the very first day. He didn't even cry due to tummy discomfort for the first three days we had him on it. Couldn't believe it.

Our next step would have been to go see a pediatric gastroenterologist for further diagnosis/treatment. For now, DS is back to being a sweet, happy baby...he rarely cries anymore. It's all trial and error, but I think we have something that works for Ethan, at least for the time being. He still spits up frequently, but his pain issues seem to be resolved. Hope you get a good solution for your little one. Good luck!

We saw an immediate change in my DD .. like, within 3 feedings. She was still slightly uncomfy, that seemed to go away in about a week. She stopped spitting up completely after 3 weeks. :) She's on Alimentum and 4mL of Zantac a day. :)

we saw improvement with DD after just a few feedings. i did mix it in slowly over a few bottles because it tastes much different(terrible) than regular formula. i always thought is smelled like canned dog food... gross.. but totally worth it!

My son (Ryan!) also has reflux..sort of off and on for him. Anyway, we did the Alimentem formula and it didn't work very well for us. We didn't see a change in him so we stopped it after 1.5 weeks. The pedi told us that it would take a week or so if it was going to work. THe stuff smelled so bad and was so much more expensive than the neosure that we were feeding him before. Hopefully it will work for you. We have ours on zantac when he has spells of reflux which works and also like the Dr. Brown's bottles.

My DD was on alimentum because of a milk protein allergy and I saw a drastic difference within 48 hrs although they do say that it takes 2-3 wks to work completely. GL!

I would give it a good week with any formula changes. GL!
