Last night we tried to move the girls IKEA table and chairs into the dinning room to let them eat like big girls. This didn’t work so well as they tried to get up from the table instead of eating. Looking for advice on switching from High chairs to booster seats at table. Not sure if they are ready or not but we were thinking this might help them eat better. What age did you switch your kids? Haven’t even searched info on booster seats, any recommendations?

I switched ours a little after they turned 1 and we use the Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe booster seat. It's very nice and so far the only issue we have with them at the table is putting their feet on it or pushing away from the table. Guess it's all a learning process....

We have the Safety First Reclining Feeding Seat and took the trays off and moved the chairs with the boosters to the table. Our two did really well with the transition (I think we did it between 15-17 months) and they liked being able to eat with the big people.

We're still using high chairs here, but they are pulled up to one end of the table so they really are eating with us, just from their trays not from the table. When we move to boosters we'll probably use the Fisher Price ones we use for traveling (like the ones a PP linked, just not the deluxe version). My guys are still okay with the high chairs, so we may not move to the boosters for a while.

just curious, do your children eat with a fork & spoon or are you all letting them pick up off the table/tray (use fingers) and are you using plates?

i am just now letting them try to stab with the fork off their tray. i don't think we are anywhere near ready for plates yet... i use the reclining chairs that transition into booster chairs and still put the trays, not ready to pull them up to the table without the trays yet since i still feed them mostly... they DO eat finger foods... :)

we never had high chairs - we started with the Fisher Price booster seats. we used them with the trays at first. around 10 months old my girls started refusing to be spoon fed so we started offering finger foods only at their meals. around a year old, we got rid of the trays & pulled them up to the table. we just served them their finger foods directly on the table. i think it was around 17 months that we started giving them spoons, forks & plates and we've been doing that ever since. :good: they're just now starting to get pretty good with their cutlery.

We started with the fisher price booster seats and when we all eat at the table we just take off the trays. I would stick to a booster or something that keeps them seated. At that age mine never sat down unless they were eating.

Mine are just "practicing" with forks and spoons but I started giving plates around age 1 too....it's taken until the last month probably for them to finally leave them alone!!!!! If they dump it they get to eat their food of the table...they eat all finger foods anyways.
