Switching formula (enfamil to good start) question

Aidyn has been on enfacare 22 cal since I stopped breastfeeding. This only comes in powder and 3oz RTF nursettes. We are taking her to regular formula and I had a few questions. First, for some reason Ashlyn was put on soy a while back...I think it was b/c we thought her tummy issues were milk-based formula related but they were acid reflux. So my questions, should I go from enfamil enfacare to regular enfamil or will it matter if I go to nestle good start instead? I've never done the formula switch thing so should I ease her into it? DH thinks Ashlyn is on soy-based for no reason and it constipates her badly even with prune juice...should I try her on the good start or regular enfamil? She went pretty much straight from breast milk to the soy. I'm so confused! Do any of your babies eat different types and different brands? Which formula is better? Not that it matters much anyway b/c neither one of them really likes to eat anyhow! Any help is appreciated.

Mine went from 22 cal neosure to regular similac. I used that for awhile, but they had problems. They have been on Alimentum, Enfamil, Enfamil AR, Good Start Supreme, and now they are on Good Start Supreme Soy. The Soy does constipate them, but I have been giving them anywhere from 2 to 4 oz of pear juice and it seems to help some. I was told to wean them from one formula to the next by mixing both formulas gradually until you are using the new formula only. I did that on some and I have also just changed cold turkey. I didn't see a difference either way. I would say to give them at least 2 weeks to see if the new formula is working. If you end up with 2 different kinds of formula I would recomend using either 2 kinds of bottles or at least one color of ring for one and another color for the other baby. I used to forget which bottle belonged to which baby after mixing. I understand the frustration with formulas completely. Good luck!

We switched from Enfamil to Good Start supreme and saw a great change in tummy issues for our son. I didn't want to do two formulas unless I had to, so I switched them both and have been great ever since. We alternate breast and good start bottles. good luck.

Where they preemies? If they were they should not have a soy based formula. The soy based formulas do not have the right potassium/calcium ratio to promote bone mineralization (something that usually happens in utero from 34-36weeks). That is what I would base my decision on - how early they are.

Since you're switching anyway, I would try the Target infant formula (yellow can). It is exactly the same as the other main formulas, and I just switched my twins to it. My daughter has a super sensitive stomach, and both twins adjusted beautifully (I'd almost say they are spitting up less). Here's the kicker. Instead of $25/big can of powdered, it is $10!!! I usually go for the brand names because I figured they were better, but when I saw the price difference, I just had to try it. Now I can almost get three times the amount for the same price!!

As far as making the switch, start the change in the morning, not night, and you might consider mixing half and half with old formula for 4-5 days. Sometimes, babies react badly simply because it's something new... so this is a better way to help them adjust.

My daughters, Aydan and Aubrey, were also on a soy enfamil that caused constipation. We made the decision to switch them to Good Start with comfort proteins and they are doing much better and are VERY regular.

We are also going to be easing into the yellow can from Target...pedi said it was fine and it is much cheaper.
