I cannot believe how well they're doing! The teachers had them working on the beginnings of a crawl stroke and pushing off to glide to the wall or another instructor today. They go underwater with help, they put their faces fully in without help, they float and hold out their arms on their backs and fronts with support, they use flotation noodles and kick on their front and back, they can hand-walk down the side of the pool to the ladder and climb out that way, they can climb out unassisted without a ladder, and they'll jump in with a teacher waiting to catch them. T&T are also the youngest in their class by a good 6 months and the first to volunteer (especially when the noodles are offered). I just noticed today when they asked who wanted to do something that Trent raised his right hand and Trevor raised his left (we're still not 100% sure on handedness). There is another group of the same "preschool 1&2" level going at the same time and I can't help but compare but I think they're the 2-2.5 and the older but fearful ones because they aren't doing the same things and they're working in the shallow pool. I know the division is not random since the class size differs. There is a lot of crying in that group :( The kids who have cried at some point in our group (including Trent on day 2&3) have stopped crying and are progressing well. It's awesome! I'm so glad we're doing this.

Wow! Sounds like the kids are having a great time and are doing great too! My girls just ended their 6 week swimming class last week. We can't wait to sign up again next summer. :D

That is incredibly impressive, Debi. Despite their antics, which, it appears, they are quickly outgrowing, they are like 2-year old Gladiators. Those are some pretty advanced skills. Perhaps your insight a year ago in buying the jungle gym is paying off with coordination and athletic prowess....now expressed in an APPROPRIATE enviornment!

I'm actually rather fascinated to hear how well this has gone for you b/c it gives me hope that my children will someday do more than scare me to death near open water. I wish you'd brag-post more...it gives me hope!

You know, it always makes me a little uneasy posting brags because I feel like people will either think I'm a liar or an attention-starved boaster. Really, I'm just excited for them. And yes, it makes me VERY pleased that they're expressing themselves in a more appropriate environment.

We also discovered a park between our house and the rec center that has a nice playground and a fenced wading pool with splash toys. We went there today and used the pool after their lessons (I drove them there in wet swimsuits :p ). They were jumping in without my help after they discovered it was only 2' deep and had a great time. I was surprised it wasn't horribly crowded since it's free... I think they do a great job of keeping it a local secret because I had no idea it was there and it's only 15 minutes from my house. You know where I'll be on those days when they drive me crazy this Summer!
