So what brand of swim diapers do you like? How about the sizing of them? My guys still wear a sz 3 diaper, but are right at 22 pds - which was the weight on the sz Med Huggies swim diapers. I bought a pack, and it seems like they are too big?

Also, how much water (if any) is normal to get into the diaper. Maybe it's a sizing issue, but the diapers were pretty wet front and back after getting out of the kiddie pool today. Are Pampers better?

    Thanks!

I used both Huggies and Pampers and had no problems with either brand. The swim diapers I found to be pretty absorbent & medium ones fit my two okay last summer (they both were around 20-22 lbs at the time). Good luck!

I dont quite get how they are supposed to work but have the small ones and the medium and they are always water logged by the time we are done. Yours might still fit in the small one, my little guy fits #3 diapers and still wears the small ones.

I'm pretty sure that they just keep the poop in... and somehow aren't quite as water logged as regular ones? or maybe they are just different materials so that they don't break down.

I use cloth diapers and cloth swim diapers and those don't have any absorbancy in them, all they do is have the liner and elastic to keep poop in...

i was going to say the same - i was always under the impression that they were just poop containers. :pardon:

i think we use the huggies - i have left overs from last summer which still fit the girls (i think they're M), so i'll just use those up. then i'll probably go up a size because they're definitely snug.

Swim diapers do not contain any liquid, both water and urine. Their entire purpose is to contain poop. If they contained urine, they would also absorb water, which would make them swell like a balloon like a regular diaper.

So if they only contain poop - do they even need to wear a diaper? I have swim suits for the little guys, and they have like full underwear in them, with elastic legs? If that elastic band around their legs are snug...... it would hold the poop in. I'll have to put their suits on and see how snug the band is around the legs. I guess having on a swim diaper though would keep the swim suit clean... and if they pooped during the middle of being outside, you wouldn't want their swim suit ruined. Just thinking out loud here! Maybe the swim diapers are a neccessity.

I have a package of Huggies swim diapers that I bought this year for the boys, but last year we had re-usable swim diapers like THESE. The boys didn't love them, but they loved being in the kiddie pool so they got over them pretty quickly. I'm thinking about getting another set this year so I don't have to buy more disposables.

And also, count me as another one who didn't know that swim diapers were supposed to hold just the poo. I just thought I was using them wrong or something.

ETA: I just looked around at One Step Ahead, and they have swim trunks with swim diapers built in! http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=536498&cmSource=Search

Looks like the question of containment is covered. [IMG] I strongly recommend investing in a few pairs of "cloth" swim diapers to save on the expense of paper swim diapers. Theyp work great and the Sun Smarties recommended above look really nice. Pair them with a UPF50 swim shirt and you are ready for summer!

I recommend using re-usable swim diapers with rubber lining. They're the only swim diapers that can be worn in public pools. In fact, they are required by the Centers for Disease Control for public-pool use. My swim club requires infants to wear disposable swim diapers underneath CDC-approved re-usable swim diapers. And, yes, both kinds of swim diapers (disposable and re-usable) only hold in poo. Toddler pools are full of urine. Never get in there.

We still have Huggies swim diapers leftover from last summer. I am hoping to finish up the package if they still fit. They seemed to contain the poop. I'd like to look into the re-usable swim diapers, though.

I use cloth swin diapers in the public pool and at home in the backyard pool I just leave them in their bathing suits without a diaper.

some swimsuits have a swim diaper included... meaning it has the PUL / rubber lining too. (PUL = polyurethene laminate which is what cloth diapers have as their outer layer). the Gymboree swimsuits we had for the kids at 3mo. had the diapers included... I had no idea they didn't hold urine... I got pictures taken at JCPenneys and they peed all over the set! whoooops! anyway, if the swimsuit you're talking about has a more rubberized lining then that's all you need, unless like pp said you're in a pool that mandates something else. if its just the boys swim trunks that have the netting inside, that wouldn't keep the feces from deteriorating in the pool and infecting the whole pool.

and yes, an extra layer will keep the swim suit clean!

We use the Iplay swim trunks with the built in diaper and they are awesome (and flipping cute!)

I think they run a little big, so just keep that in mind.
