Because it's 115 heat index here in the heart of Missouri, my ankles have started to swell. The thing is my right ankles swells about 2x as much as my left.
Anyone have any experience with this? Is it concerning?
I vaguely remember in one of the 5 books I've read on pregnancies about disproportionate swelling and clots etc.. .

Bless your heart!!! My ankles were swollen at the end but both were basically the same. My dr told me that swelling can be actually because you need to drink more water - but like I said mine were about the same. If I were you I would just call the dr. - I have heard of that happening but I do not remember why??

I have had more swelling to my left side from the beginning and so does a friend of mine who is also pregnant with a singleton. I told my OB and my swelling is not very concerning to begin with, mainly mild and at the end of the day. The OB took a look and felt behind my left knee for tenderness, warmth, or redness (signs of a bloodclot) She told me if any of these developed or the swelling got worse to come in. She also told me to drink 1-2 GALLONS of water and to put my feet up often throughout the day!! That is a ton but I try my best. I live in Arizona and it is currently monsoon season so I know about the heat + humidity. I wish you the best luck and I think it is worth a phone call to your OB. When in doubt, better safe than sorry. Good luck :)

I agree, Drink LOTS and LOTS of water!! Definitely keep your feet up and keep that A/C on if its an option! I hope it cools down for you soon, and the swelling dies down! :hug99:

I would get seen ASAP- ER if you have to. I am not trying to scare you, the great likelyhood is it is fine some women do experience this, but the reason for concern is there is a slight chance it could be something dangerous, like a blood clot. It is much better to be safe than sorry in a situation like this.

Just a ditto that swelling more on one side than the other is a sign for a DVT (blood clot) in the leg or groin. Pregnancy causes all women to be more susceptible to blood clots due to the high hormone levels, add the heavy weight of carrying twins plus the expanded blood volume and even higher hormone levels, and being pg with twins makes women even more susceptible to blood clots.

It's still a rare occurance, but better to get checked out. (Says the woman who had a DVT that broke apart and traveled to her lung during her pg.)

Checked with the doc and they said if the swelling was in my calf, that would be more of a concern. Also if there was pain associated with the swelling.

Anyway I see them tomorrow so I'll let the doc check it out then.

    Thanks for the input!
