A week ago Monday I had the girls. I had a vaginal and c-section delivery. I was on lots of fluids for a day and a half. Well my calves and feet swelled up. The nurse said not to worry it would go down. Well it has improved but my ankles and feet are still swollen. It is definately not as bad as it was before but the tops of my feet and my ankles are still slightly swollen. And when you push on the top of my foot it dents in and takes about twenty seconds or so to go back. I have been taking Motrin for my pain from my c-section. I haven't taken the heavy pain killers since yesterday. Just wondering if anyone else swelled like this? If so how long did it take to go back to normal?

Okay I just read that ibuprofen can cause mild swelling. So that could explain it. Thankfully I am taking less and less of the Motrin.

Hmmm...I don't have any experience with the swelling. But what I do remember is all the meds they pumped you full of. My boys were my first, and I had a c/s with them. I remember awhile after having them waking up drenched in sweat. So maybe for you the swelling will go down some more if that happens. I wish people told me about that! LOL! Congrats on your twins!

I had a c-section and was swollen for a couple of weeks after delivery. Apparently it is completely normal to have mild edema after a c-section so don't worry! If it still hasn't gone down after another week or so I would contact your doctor just to be sure. Congratulations on your twins!

As others said - it took me a good 3 weeks for my swelling to go down. It will get better!

Thanks!!! I feel a lot better knowing it can take two or three weeks! I go to the obgyn on Tuesday to have him check my incision. If it's still a problem then I will mention it. Thanks! :)

I delivered both vaginally and my feet and ankles were HUGE for about 3 weeks. It's totally normal.

I had severe swelling in ankles and feet. It wasn't good, I could only wear slippers. Doctor gave me some water pills to help push it out. It still took a few weeks but did relieve discomfort. I also wore compression socks. My babies were NICU so I did a lot of walking around hospital etc. They always say to stay off your feet and keep elevated but I think that's impossible for a new twin mommy. Congratulations on your girls.

I, too, had severe swelling after my c-section. My ankles and feet were swollen my last month of pregnancy. After the birth of my twins at 35 weeks, both of my legs from my thighs down were swollen. I was freaking out! The swelling in my legs started to go down after one week, but my feet and ankles remained swollen for about a month. My doctor said not to worry. He didn't want to give me water pills because I was breastfeeding, so he told me just to elevate my feet as much as possible. He also told me to drink lots of water. I know it sounds counterintuitive to take in more fluids when you're already retaining so much, but he said it would help. Hope you feel better soon. Hang in there!

I'm still swollen and my girls are almost 2 months old lol. I had really bad swelling in pregnancy though. It is getting better week by week but my wedding set still won't fit.

My swelling was very bad for about 7-10 days (all I could wear was DH's sandals or his slippers -- I also had a rash on my feet & ankles), and then went away amazingly fast. It was like one day I had no ankles, the next day I could see an improvement, and the day after that I had my own feet back.

Thank you for all the replies!!! It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one going through this. I had some swelling with my son but nothing this bad. Today they look pretty normal. They are still slightly swollen but I can actually see some ankle bone. lol

I swelled a ton after my single birth and my twins. It took quite a few weeks to go down. Massage it up and elevate your legs if possible.

I agree with all the other posts. I wish I had pics now. Mine took almost a month, but I was on the severe side. Fluids fluids fluids, elevate while sitting, technically they need to be higher than you heart but that was impossible for me. Also walk walk walk as much as you can, moving around is vital. Sounds crazy but it works. And just like someone said you will go to bed with swollen leg (cankles) and wake up with the smallest skinny minnie feet and ankles. Avoiding high sodium foods will help too! Good luck and congrats :)
