Anyone have this problem? My hands are puffy but not as puffy as one particular index finger. I have one finger thats almost double the size of my other fingers and it's the most stiff and painful of them all. Anyone else going through something like this? I tried ice, but it didn't do much.
I will mention it at my next appt.

Swelling in your hands can be a sign of pre-e. Here is a good article for you. You are so far along, I would run it by your doc and see what s/he says. Pre-e is definately not anything to mess around with. Do you have any other symptoms...besides being extremely uncomfortable? :hug99:

My DD developed horrible carpal tunnel (swelling, numbness, tingling pain) in both hands during her last month of pregnancy. She could barely hold a phone up to her ear for long because the tingling and pain was so frustrating for her, and forget holding something smaller like a pen or even a fork, it would fall out of her hand. The swelling was watched carefully for pre-eclampsia but fortunately that was not her case.

Her doctor thought the carpal tunnel would go away immediately following delivery but unfortunately it continued to be an issue for her for the first 2-3 weeks after the boys were born. I felt so bad for her because it caused her a great deal of discomfort in both hands to even hold one of the babies. She was a trooper and got through it though, and it finally went away altogether, hallelujah! :)

I hope your swelling improves and that it's not an indicator of pre-eclampsia. Be sure and have it checked!

At 37 weeks, I would be surprised if there was not any swelling even if it weren't related to Pre-E. I stayed swelled from about 30 weeks on... I was swelled in the face, hands, feet and legs. But my BP was fine, and I didn't have Pre-e. My OB said the best thing for it is to keep your legs level to your heart, and rest as much as possible. Hang in there!

I am so swollen in the feet, ankles, legs and hands. By the end of the day I am twice the size of normal from the thighs down and my ankles disappear by 10am. My hands have been continuously swollen (and fingertips are tingly) for the past four weeks or so. My blood pressure is fine and I do not have any of the pre-e signs. I am sure your doctor is watching you closely so I wouldn't worry too much. My left leg is twice the size as my right leg and no one is too worried about it.

Oh, the joys of the last few weeks! I love that we are still hanging in there together and can't wait to here your birth story!

Do you have an induction date set?

I have the badly swollen fingers and hands, too -- particularly the index, middle and ring fingers on my right hand. The tips of them are mostly tingly, but often numb, too. It's not pretty! Thankfully, mine is not from pre-e (OB is watching it carefully), but from carpal tunnel.....although I'm swelling everywhere else, too.

I have no idea how I'm going to make it through another 6 weeks, but just trying to take one day at a time....but you are SO close now! Hope the swelling goes away for you very soon after delivery, and that it's nothing to worry about.

Sorry if this post went out twice.
Thanks ladies, actually I don't have any pre-e symptoms other than my swollen hands. My only concern is that one finger is more swollen than the rest, which is very weird.

Amy, yes we are both very close and I'm looking forward to hearing your birth story as well......I don't have an induction date, as long as everything is well, I want to hang on as long as possible.

It's always worth a call to the OB if you are concerned about anything. That's their job! I have had swelling in my hands off and on for the past several months. I haven't even wanted to wear my ring for fear that I'll swell and not be able to get it off. Though I do have some risk of pre-e my OB tells me the minor swelling (along with the numbness, tingling and shooting pains) in my hands are caused by pregnancy carpal tunnel. Lately just my left foot has been swelling and the OB says that I am far enough along and with twins that some swelling is to be expected no matter what I do. I wake up in the morning with it swollen. I am keeping an eye out for a huge increase in the swelling, increase in blood pressure, headaches and/or spots in my vision that may indicate pre-e.
