Hi ladies, I am about 23 weeks and have had some very bad swelling since 19 weeks. Sometimes I can't even get my shoes on to go to work. Today is one of those days. I have tried so many things to get the swelling down, but nothing seems to work. One of my doctors has said that she may take me off work sooner than 28 weeks since my swelling is so bad. They are sending me to PT today to see if there is anything they can do for me. I have a job where I do a lot of standing for 8-10 hours a day, so this does not help the swelling either. Anyone else have problems like this? The doctor told me that both babies are laying on my arteries, and that slows down my circulation too. I would love to hear any input.

    Thanks!

I didn't have a lot of swelling until the end, but do you have a lot of salt in your diet? I think that can also contribute to swelling?

    Good luck!

I was swelling when I was at work as well. Now that I'm on modified bedrest the swelling has stopped.

I was just going to post about the same topic today. I begin to swell if I am on my feet for more than an hour. My ankles swell especially bad. I just try to put my feet up often but once the swelling starts nothing really helps. I have also started swimming in the evenings just to relieve some stress on my joints and extremities. MY ankles and legs are usually aching by the end of the day. It would be great if you could get off of work early and take it easy throughout the day. Good luck :)

I had lots of swelling too. But once I hit 29 weeks I started to get pre-e and that is a sign of it as well.

I had horrible swelling. Be sure to limit your salt intake and drink tons and tons of water. I was put on modified bedrest at 27 weeks and eventually full bedrest a couple of weeks later. I ended up developing pre-e. Please be careful and talk to your doctor.

I have noticed that when I prop them up, the swelling will go away with in a hour. But as soon as I get up and move around it is full blown swelling again. I have lowered my salt intake a lot and that still does not help. I think I am just stuck with it until I have the babies. If it wasn't such a financial burden right now, I would go ahead and take off work. Thanks for the responses ladies.

I had really bad swelling toward the end but did not have blood pressure issues. I could only wear crocs which were a size bigger than what I usually wear and my hands really swelled up at the end, I could hardly bend my fingers, it was awful. My dr said this was normal with twins as there is more fluid and blood pumping. I was also drinking a ton of water to flush things out. Make sure you put your feet up as much as possible and drink a lot of water. Also watch your salt intake, this really made me swell up. It took a while after the babies were delivered for it to go down and I still am fighting with my wedding ring. It will get better, it is just one of those pregnancy things. Hang in there.
