Sweet story of my sick little boy

I had to take Jacob to Urgent Care the other night because he had what turned out to be Croup. He is doing fine now (except for a slightly runny nose). However, the night I took him, he was MISERABLE. It was after bedtime and he had woken up coughing the classic Croup cough. So, I took him to Urgent Care and my DP stayed home with Jack, who was sleeping. DP has been home for 6 weeks recovering from surgery and we have all really enjoyed having her around... the boys, especially! Anyway, we got to Urgent Care and he was snuggling on my chest in the waiting room. Every time someone would walk by or a door would open, Jacob would sit up and exclaim "Ma!!!?!". That is the name that he calls my DP (not me). It was so sweet. I explained to him that she was at home with Jack... then Jacob started exclaiming "BUB!"... the name he calls his brother, short for Bubby, a nickname we call him. The entire evening, amidst ample vomiting and harsh coughing, he kept exclaiming the names of his mom and brother, who he dearly missed. It's so sweet to see them develop the ability to communicate the affection and attachment they have to the people they love.

Oh, Erin that is sweet! That is one of the best things to me about being a Mommy...no matter what unhappy thing might be going on, little people just exude love

Glad to hear he is on the mend!

So now I have that trying-not-to-cry lump in my throat. That is so touching and I know exactly how you feel about their newfound communication. Every time my boys hear the garage or the alarm (beeps if we open any door or window), their faces light up and they say "uh-ooooh....DADA!". The three of us were out at my mom's the other day when my dad came home. The boys didn't see him yet so I said "look who's here!". They lit up and started screaming DADA DADA! I just love it. Didn't mean to hijack your post, just wanted you to know I know how exciting this new stage is :D . Thanks for sharing.

Oh, that is so amazingly sweet! When they're newborns, it's so hard, because they hardly seem to be aware of anything and anyone - and then they're toddlers and they can communicate just how much they love you all! I hope he's feeling better now, and happily home with his "bub" and his mommies. :)
