Sweaty sleepers?

Does anyone else have kids who get incredibly sweaty when they're sleeping? How do you handle it? Some nights Piper is drenched in sweat at 10pm when I go to check on the girls before heading to bed. Her hair is damp, her pillow is wet, and even her sheets are slightly damp. I think the sweatiness is mostly her head, but sometimes even her body will be sweaty.

She sleeps in shorts and a tshirt with a thin blanket. Sometimes the room is cool and sometimes it's warmer. We don't have air conditioning so I can't change the temperature of the room without opening the windows, and I hesitate to do that in the evenings when the girls go to bed because it's still light out and they sleep much better in darkness.

How do any of you deal with sweaty kids?

Alice wakes up incredibly sweaty from naps and in the first part of the night if she wakes up she's sweaty. I get sweaty too when I'm sleeping, partly because I have to be covered with a blanket or I can't sleep.

This happens to Sophia. It's mainly her head sweating from what I can tell. My sister-in-law has told me the same thing happens to my niece, who is 10. Sophia has a comforter on her bed that I have folded down now that its warmer out and a lot of times when I go in she has pulled that up on her and is sleeping/sweating away under it. I take the comforter off if I can, but honestly I have not done anything else about it because I figure if she was uncomfortable/bothered by it she would wake up. I'm curious to see what others say about this- I just know my niece does the same thing (buries herself under blankets and sweats) and it has not affected the quality of her sleep.

Meara gets sweaty at the beginning of the night too. She loves to cocoon herself in her blanket, but I go in about a half hour after she falls asleep and pull the blankets down.

Luke gets sweaty when he sleeps too. I keep a light blanket and PJ's on him so it's not too bad when he wakes up.

Does she sleep OK despite the sweat?

Ivy gets really sweaty during naps (though only during naps, not nighttime - go figure). As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to bother her. Sorry, I wish I had more ideas! I'd just make sure to have lots of PJ sets and sheets so you don't have to do laundry all the time.

dang it, I had a post here!!

Okay, in order to regulate sleep, your body regulates temperature. Cooler body temperatures make for better sleep, coolness makes you sleepy. A lot of people like to sleep in a colder room (even if it is with blankets) because it makes them sleep better.

Not the best article, but it'll do for now.

ETA: Why the head? The head is the center of body temperature regulation. It's why you wear a hat in the winter and why you (normal people, not weirdos like you Holly :bubble: ) start sweating around your hair line before any other place on your body.

One of my DDs is going through the same thing. I was wondering if I should remove her top sheet (with the plastic under-lining) so it would breathe better. Do you still use a top sheet? It risky but maybe worth a try...

Ellie is my sweater. She's been that way since she was born. Her hands and feet are constantly sweaty too. I have an a/c in their room, but if it's not cool enough in there, her sheets are soaked. I was going to bring it up to the dr. to make sure it's normal and nothing to worry about. She will be sweaty even when I don't think it's really hot and nobody else is sweating.

Bex - this is good info, thanks! So I should probably open the window to cool their room down even if it does make the room brighter. Or maybe throw Piper in the freezer for a few minutes before bed. Hmmmm.

My girls are sweaters. We have a ceiling fan in their room that stays on to circulate the air. If if is a particularly hot night, we will set up a fan outside of their room to blow cooler air in there. They will wake up with wringing wet hair if we don't have air circulating.

My boys are sweaters-especially Nicholas. The kid wakes up from a nap like he just got out of the shower! And I don't know what it is with kids-but they both REFUSE to not sleep with blankets-no matter how hot it is. AND-they have to have clothes on. Drives me bonkers! But we have an a/c on in their room to help keep it cool when it's really hot up there(we live in a Cape style home and boy does it get hot upstairs!).

    Hi:

I've got one that sweats (and one that doesn't really). For the sweater, we dress him in light PJs (shorts and tank top), keep the overhead fan on all night, and try to limit his covers to a thin sheet (I pull the other blanket off him when I check on him before I go to bed.) When I go in to check before I go to bed, he is always all sweaty. I also use all cotton sheets for him (not blend) because they are cooler and more absorbent.

Abby's a sweat-er (not a sweater LOL) but it doesn't seem to bother her at all...she'll stick her feet out of the blanket if she gets hot...

I've got one that is a sweater. They sleep in the same room with the same type of pajamas and the same blankets. She's also my skinnier one, which surprises me, you'd think that she'd be colder with less body mass. She has hypothyroidism, I thought it might be related to that.

My skinnier one is the one that wakes up sopping wet more often too. They both do it some though. I never thought to do anything about it. There room is a good temperature and they are wearing appropriate pjs for the season. The one that sweats won't even sleep under a blanket. My DH is like this to some extent still, so I just thought his little mini-me took after him.
