My boys are only 2 months old now, but they need a LOT of swaddling. One of my boys in particular has infant meltdowns (oh, what a joy the "terrible twos" will be with him! :p ) if he's not swaddled for more than a few minutes. He can only take about 10 minutes unswaddled before a breakdown occurs. My other guy is much more mellow but still enjoys a good swaddle.

Now, I know they are young, and they were 3 weeks premature, so I'm fine with swaddling them as they need right now... I'm just curious, when did you guys stop swaddling? What's the longest anyone swaddled on a regular basis? It seems like my boys will never want to be unswaddled for any length of time (though I know of course that's not true!).

    Thanks for your input... :)

I just used receiving blankets to swaddle, but my 2 were breaking out of the swaddles around 2 months. I quit then, as it seemed to be counterproductive to have them struggling against the swaddle!

We quit using the Miracle Blankets (for nighttime only) at the 5 month mark. Mine never needed to be swaddled during the day (except for the first month or so)...just during the "night" (in quotes since "night" and "day" don't really matter to a 2 month old!).

We loved the Miracle Blankets...worth every penny!

I've heard of people swaddling as late as 10 months.

I swaddled my guys until they could break free. Then I did a "half swaddle" where I only swaddled their legs and left their arms free, then when they started kicking loose we stopped swaddling. I think we swaddled until 2 months, then half swaddled until 3 months. I think swaddling is a self limiting thing, they only liked to wrapped up like a burrito for so long before they need to be free.

the twins are almost 5 months and we still swaddle. With my first son I did it until he was about 7 months old and could sleep on his belly.

We're still swaddling them under their arms.

My babies are still swaddled and we just hit the 4 month mark... I know we have to find another option soon because they can bust out these days, but they don't seem ready to sleep without it. I've got them napping without it about half the time, but at night they still get swaddled.

my girls just turned 5 months and i still swaddle -we'd stopped for a while but rediscovered and it's made a difference. Miracle blankets definitely.

oh, and - you probably can't imagine it but you will start seeing HUGE changes in about 4-6 weeks; my girls were born at 34 weeks and when they hit about 3 months started doing all kinds of wonderful things.

We still swaddle at 5 1/2 months. It's always only been for nighttime though.

We stopped around two months b/c they just got too hot, and they always ended up kicking it off anyway. Now I just use a light blanket (which they kick off too)...
