When do you stop swaddling? They hate being swaddled but sleep good all wrapped up. So, what signs do babies give letting you know they don't want to be swaddled anymore?

We stopped at 6 mos because they were just to strong and would bust out of their blankets. Plus, my DS was almost 25 pounds at the time and there is seriously nothing funnier than seeing a big 'ol baby wrapped up like a newborn infant!!!!

So I guess our sign was that they were just too strong and busted out. Our kids hated being swaddled while we were wrapping the blanket around them, but once we were done it was like a switch would go off and they would instantly calm down and go to sleep. When we stopped, our naps were never the same.

We started weaning from swaddling the night we found Madison rolled over on her tummy still completely wrapped, there is no way she could have gotten back over. I think they were maybe 5 months old or so

Mine never really cared for being swaddled. The always fussed until their arms were free. We also so that they were getting out of their blankets sometime during the night. We quit right before they were 4 months old. We went to sleep sacks.

For us we stopped when our daughter was 6 months or so and put her in sleep sacks but we had such horrible sleep issues that when she was about 9 months old we started again. We used blanket that we made from flannel that we bought in the crafts section. They are a yard square.

We continued to swaddle until she was about 14 months old and sleeping was much better.

So I would say don't stop.
Exactly they hate actually being swaddled but it helps focus them. So why change something that is working.

    Best of Luck

I don't know the right answer...all I know is our blankets just keep getting bigger and bigger[IMG] My dh and I always joke about them being two years old and bringing us their blankets and asking us to wrap them up so they can go to bed....pretty funny, but as for now its still working great for us!

Wow I think I stopped swaddling after the first couple weeks! They would always try to break out! Is there really a proper time to quit swaddling? Oops!

We stopped swaddling a few weeks ago. My babies don't like it and fuss until feet and hands are out. I don't see the point to swaddle a belly only!

We stopped swaddling at 8 months. At first (started at almost 5 weeks) they didn't care for it much but quickly got used to it. Later on they couldn't sleep without it.

I then started just swaddling only their top half, then left the arms out and just swaddled the torso until they were weaned. They still sleep great now.

We're still swaddling for bedtime/naps. They (usually just Luca)fuss about it at first, but sleep better. They both end up unwrapping in the night, but they still stay asleep.
I think is depends on how hard you want to work at it. If they sleep better, I wouldn't give in to the fussing.

We're still swaddling ours in the Swaddleme blankets. I tried leaving their arms out for a couple of nights last week, but they ended up waking up in the middle of the night. I put their arms back in & presto- they're back sleeping thru. It may be more for my benefit than theirs, but I'll keep 'em swaddled till they raise a huge stink about it!
