Hello, how often do you swaddle your babies during the day? Is it just for nighttime and naps or do you do it while they are awake also? I am having a hard time figuring which way to go. If I don't during the day they'll fall asleep and then I'm waking them up while I manuver them. But if I don't swaddle them while they fall asleep they get the jumping relex and it startles them awake too...augh which way to go, which way to go ;)

We swaddled for naps and bedtime, though in the first couple months they "napped" a lot so they were swaddled a lot of the day.

We use the kiddopatamus velcro swaddlers at night b/c the babies cannot break out of them. During the day we will loosely swaddle them in a receiving blanket, usually they break free pretty quick. I'm figuring that by just using the heavy duty swaddlers at night, they will figure out that it is a "nighttime" thing and sleep more. During the day I'm lucky if they lay down for an hour at a time to sleep, but they will go 2-3 hours at night (of actual sleeping, they eat every 3-4 hours), so maybe they are figuring it out.

We swaddled them during the day if they were taking a "nap" which was pretty much all the time still at that age and we swaddled them during the night. We would usually keep them un-swaddled for atleast a little while in between naps so they could stretch/play. But then again our babies were/are very sound sleepers so even if they fell asleep un-swaddled we were able to swaddle them and move to the crib without them waking up too much. Since you said yours wake when you swaddle them maybe try to figure out how long they usually stay awake and say if its 30 minutes swaddle them when they've been awake for 25 minutes so when they do fall asleep they are already swaddled. KWIM?

We swaddled them at night with the swaddle me. During the day, we swaddled with a blanket. My guys just like the feeling of being "tucked in".

BTW........I have two pugs and LOVE them!!

We still swaddle for naps and at night with the Kiddopatamus--I love it! Although, I am now trying to figure out how to break the habit...my little guy is waking up at night for a nook and I need him to learn how to find his hands UGH!

    CRAZY...we have two pugs too!!

Sorry to hi-jack but just wanted to say try swaddling them with their arms out and looseing the swaddle a little each night if you can. I am not really sure if that is possible with the Kiddopatamus because we always just used regular blankets for swaddling. And then switch to the sleep sacks so they are still warm and comforted but have their hands free. They should be ready to be without their arms tucked in since if I remember correctly that is about the age we stopped swaddling and they were past the "swinging arms while sleeping and waking themselves up" stage.

We are in the same boat. Our girls have startle reflex too. T hey do not nap well during the day as we dont swaddle them. I would rather have them sleep at night. We swaddle them after 8 pm feed. If we are lucky, they will sleep. But usually they sleep after 2 am feed. They will sleep well till 8 am. Every night atleast one baby cries from 8 to 2. We still practice swaddling 8 to 8. During the day, we have the problem of startling. Now we brought the open top cradle swing, works well for day time napping, even if baby startle, the motion & soothing music, puts her to sleep, not a deep sleep, but atleast she doesnt cry. We plan on bringing another swing. So maybe try swing for daytime.
