Surviving twin colds?

    Hi all,

We have our first colds here... B woke up with a seriously runny nose and is sneezing every other minute. She obviously doesn't feel well and only wants to be held. A isn't sick (so far!) but I'm sure she's not far behind. I'm just getting a cold myself and my husband is getting over one, so I'm not surprised the girls are getting sick.

I'm running the humidifier, pulling out the nose gunk, and generally offering love and hugs. Is there anything else that any of you did to help with baby colds?

    Thanks,
    Trish

That was really about it! I just did lots of extra snuggle time and eliminated any unnecessary traveling. If we didn't have to go out we didn't!

Hope it doesn't hang on long!

We did all that you mentioned plus saline nose drops. It helps the mucous stay runny so that it doesn't clog up their sinuses and it's easier to suction out or drain by itself. Good luck! My twins have had 5 colds already!

yes, definitely try the saline nose drops. It loosens everything up and you can suck much more.

Also try to elevate the crib mattress too! It helps.

I read that it's a good idea to offer more fluids. What have you all done? Water? Pedialyte? Or just the regular amount of breastfeeding or formula?

    Thanks!

James has had three colds and Evan has had two (all in the last 3 months). We used a humidifier at night and for naps, kept them sleeping in different room so they wouldn't wake each other with their coughing, wipes their noses with a moist cloth rather than a kleenex (prevents redness), gave them plenty of fluids, stayed close to home, and did lots of extra hugging and kissing. Also, not too much dairy (yogurt, etc.) as I was told that can increase thick mucous.

My girls are both sick with their first colds right now. McKenna is either sicker or more melodramatic. She does seem to be getting the higher fevers though. They have the most pitiful little coughs. :( The night before last, neither of them slept well and i was up all night. Last night, McKenna was a crying, miserable mess and she was up until 2am. Even then she only slept a few hours. Needless to say, with the lack of sleep, I'm sick now too! :cray:

You're doing all the right things. It's just so hard to see them so miserable. I hope all our babies feel better soon!

On a rare occasion I would give Tylenol (per pedis suggestion) if they were completely miserable, in case they were achy. Always seemed to help. Other than that, I used to do what you are doing.
