I've had a couple friends from here contact me asking for a birth story, so I thought I would post one. :)

So, my csection was scheduled for 5pm on Monday, January 19th and I was told to arrive at the hospital at 3pm to get prepped. Well, we got there a little before 3pm and they weren't ready for me yet! I've never had that happen, so DH and I paced the lobby and looked at all the "ooohh look at me, I donated $$$ to the hospital" plaques. And thankfully while we were waiting, my friend and doula showed up. I am sure she expected me to be in my room already (didnt we all), but having her there did pass the lobby time a little faster!

Finally around 3:30pm they were ready and we went up to my room. We did all the prep, met the anesthesiologist, the nurses, etc... then my IPs (the parents) came. Thankfully we worked it out for them to get to be in the room.

I got into the OR a little after 5pm, got to chit chat with my OB while I got my spinal... I had a fabulous anesthesiologist, wonderful nurses... it was really all a breeze. No nerves at all! About 10 minutes later my DH and IPs strolled in. I was happy to see my DH, its much easier for him to scratch my face for me than it is for me to try! (LOL! Dang morphine!) Then about 5 minutes later Daniel was out. He didnt cry right away (not uncommon for csection babies) but after they suctioned him he was a little screeching monkey! I could hear them checking him out and finally told them to bring him over so I can see! He was cute enough and pink... so off they went back to my room.

It was SO nice having DH stay with me after that part! With all of our kids, he left with the baby, but since the baby has his own parents he stayed and scratched my face! The OB spent some extra time checking out my uterus since he knew that I wanted to do this again and that was my fourth csection. And I am delighted to report that my uterus looks fabulous! No excess scar tissue, no stretching near the incision, no weak areas! All good news! He said right there in the OR that he has no problem with me carrying and having another csection.

Anyway, after I was stitched up and waiting to get moved to a gurney, I went ahead and sent DH back to the room. About 5 minutes later I got rolled back to my room where my IPs and the baby were. Then I called my doula (who I guess was roaming the halls??) to come back and she took some fabulous pictures of my IPs first moments with their baby... and of his bath. Oh and she rubbed my feet! Woot! Those Doula classes really paid off!

From then on it was a mess of visitors, shift changes, room decisions, pictures, sponge baths and a whole mess of other things!! At about 9pm it finally quieted down! After being up all night and baby D throwing up some (caused by being forced to eat before he was ready -thanks nurse!) he was taken to the nursery in the AM just to get deep suctioned and watched. I was discharged at 7:30am, but stayed until we knew what baby D was doing (staying or going)... but around 3pm it was all set and I went home!

They flew home Thursday morning and all is well!

Anyway... blah blah blah! Daniel Ethan was born on January 19th at 5:37pm weighing 7lbs 7oz and measuring 19.5 inches.

    Daniel.

I am so glad you posted your birth story. I am sure the parents could never thank you enough. It is great that the OB cleared you to give Daniel a sibling when the family is ready. Is it going to continue to be an open relationship?

Congrats Heather. :) He is beautiful. How did it feel to go home without the baby? I might be a surrogate for my sister who has problems with etopic pregnancies, but I am so nervous about after the baby is born and my emotions. Have you experienced anything like that?? If you want to PM me if its not suppose to be here..thats fine. I just always wondered..and since you and I are friends..thought I could ask. LOL
