Surprise Baby Shower

So, some of you will remember that I never expected to get a baby shower. I live in London but my family is in Texas and my friends are spread all over the place (London, New York, Qatar, D.C., Paris, Texas, Chicago). Anyway, I just thought that it would be too difficult for everyone to get something together so I never really expected anything. Well, this weekend my husband was away house hunting in Texas and a friend of mine offered to fly here from Paris to babysit me. Then I received a call from another friend who has been working in Qatar, saying that she was home in London and wanted to meet up with the two of us. Dumb me totally didn't make the connection that this is an unlikely coincidence. :blink: I think that I was just so preoccupied with husband being away and trying to find a house. Long story short, Paris friend convinced me to go out Saturday night to meet Qatar friend. We met up at Qatar friend's house and then took a car over to a beautiful restaurant. As I walk up I see this big bunch of balloons and decorations and my other girlfriends all gathered there!!!

It was wonderful. The food and service was AMAZING!!! I couldnt believe how accomodating the restaurant was. After dinner they moved us to a corner booth in the bar and we did the games and gifts. The girls all got quite merry off Proseco and wine, so everyone was in very high spirits. Mostly it was just so good to see everyone since I had not seen some of the girls in ages.

Apparently they had been planning this for over a month and my husband was in on the whole thing. I even found out that there was a covert operation earlier in the day where one of my friends hid outside my house to collect gifts from my Paris friend. I cant believe she was at my house and I never even noticed anything!!! They gave me great gifts and it was just a really really good evening. I actually could not believe how much they managed to pull off given that we only had a booth in a restaurant, but they did not miss a thing, including shower games, parting gifts, cake, etc. One of the cutest things is that they decorated the cake in Italian (gemelli = twins) since the babies will be half Italian. It was really sweet and I'm so happy that I got a shower!!!

I know. The girls were soooo great and it was just so much fun -- definitely the most fun I have had during this entire pregnancy.

 

I literally squealed and nearly jumped for joy when I saw Sophie the Giraffe!! Sophie was my favorite gift and the thing I most wanted. I had asked my Paris friend if she could find Sophie for me and she told me that she couldnt find her anywhere and I was really heartbroken. :cry: So I was absolutely ecstatic when I opened that box and found deux Sophies!! Turns out she had to run all over Paris baby stores and her entire office was involved in the Sophie search! :banana:

Living away from my family and friends I so understand how much a shower really means. I'm so glad you were able to have such a wonderful party -- you deserve it.
