Surgery for stomache muscles after pregnancy?

Has anyone had surgery on their tummy after having their twins?

My OB/GYN had me do a half sit up and said my stomache muscle was out of place due to having the twin pregnancy. He said I would need surgery to move it back into place. I'm wanting to have this done...but am nervous at the same time.

If you've had a surgery like this, can you tell me more about it? Was it a difficult experience to go through? Was it worth it? TIA!

I haven't had surgery like that - I don't think I had that bad of a separation b/c I can flex my stomach muscles now even though below the belly button I have a little bit of extra skin I'd like to get rid of but you could only tell if I wore a bikini so it's no big deal. I'm hoping one day it goes away.

If you are planning on having more children I'd say to wait and have the surgery after that - what if you have twins again? But if you are done having babies then I say go for the surgery, I'd love to get my extra tummy skin removed one day and get my boobs fixed up - from the weight gain and loss they look like 2 deflated balloons! lol

Did he say how bad of a separation it is? Mine is about 2 finger widths - or an inch or so wide. I am so self conscious about it. My stomach used to be flat and now it will forever be poochy unless I get it fixed. And my belly button looks totally deformed because there's nothing to hold back the intestines behind it. Did he give any indication whether or not your insurance may cover this? I'm assuming it wouldn't for me. But after I'm done having children, I plan to at least look into it. If it's completely out of pocket though, I don't know if I'd go through with it - there'd always be another way to spend the money (like a college fund). But if insurance would cover it, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

If I were you, I wouldnt even consider the surgery until I knew for sure that I wasnt going to have any more children and wait at least a year or so to get your pre-pregnancy body back. It can take some time. You will be surprised at what you can achieve.

    Thanks for the info.

The doc didn't say how bad it was, just said I would need the surgery to move the muscles back into place. He also said it's covered by insurance, so that's good! I couldn't come up with out of pocket money very easily either.

I'm pretty sure we're done having kids....6 is a lot, lol! But I'll wait for a year and consider the surgery then.

I'm wondering if my back issues are also related to this issue? It seems to me if you have strong abs and muscles in the right area, it would support your back better.

My doc said it's not covered by insurance.

It's something you will want to wait on since you will not be able to pick up kids for several weeks after. I would love to get a TT and repair my stomach muscles but anytime beofre they are about 4 y/o just doesn't make sense to me. It's also very expensvie.

Yes, definitely true. I recently started having back problems too, and was hoping maybe this would be my in for having insurance help out since it wouldn't strictly be cosmetic anymore. But we're not done having kids, so it will be awhile before I even get to look into it.
