so my girls both tend to nurse in about 5 - 8 minutes with a long nursing session topping out at 15 minutes. does anyone else have super fast nursers? i think it's probably fine as they don't act hungry after & often go 2 - 3 hours between nursing sessions. also, they have lots of wet/dirty diapers so i'm pretty sure they're getting enough. still, a little reassurance from other moms goes a long way...

All three of my babies were fast nursers and I could tell when I pumped that my flow was fast, which was probably why. As long as your babies seem satisfied and are peeing and pooping as they should, they are almost certainly getting plenty of milk and are just efficient nursers (something to be thankful for, especially when there are two to feed!).

Mine weren't that fast that early, but they did get that fast. And they were fine. It's hard to believe they're getting all they need so quickly --- but they manage!

Mine got that fast around 3-4mnths - doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about! Enjoy the spare time (if you can call it that)!

Mine were always that fast. Except during growth spurts or when they needed extra snuggles. Just for feeding they were always under 8 minutes.

With my first I was so worried she wasn't getting enough and they told me to nurse 10 minutes on one side and then switch sides. I couldn't get her to nurse the 10 minutes on one side hardly ever from the day my milk came in. Let alone try to switch sides for her to nurse on. After I went to the Dr for her 2 week appt and she had gained weight I just decided she knew what she was doing. By 8 months she would nurse for only 5 minutes most of the time, but she was growing well. My son would nurse more like 15 minutes. It was hard to get used to at first.

My girls were super fast too! I think they knew that I had a 2 y/o I needed to chase ;). Once they hit about 3 months, they nursed for about 10 minutes total. It was awesome compared to my dd1 who took her own sweet time while nursing.

I am in the same boat as others- 3 mo. old. DD nursing about 8-10 min and DS enjoys more time. I came on line to see if anyone else had this issue, was worried she was not getting enough. Just wanted to thank all who responded because it helps me feel more comfortable and stay the course.

Wow, I'm glad I came across this! I have slow nursers, but I've been told they'll speed up. For all those that said your babies sped up at 3 months, how long were your feedings before?

before my girls turned into speed racers ( ;) ) they could take anywhere from 20 min - 1 hr to nurse. each. although, i think if i had to do it over again, i would have implemented a 20 min or 30 min cut off. my nipples took a lot of damage & could have used more breaks in the early days. i wouldn't be as willing now to be a human pacifier.

I often wonder how much is actually nursing and how much is pacifying anyway.

So glad I just found this! Mine DD is 4 mos. 5 days, and has just recently started nursing 5-8 minutes and then pulling off. I try to put her back on and she arches her whole body trying to get away from me! I thought she was starting to have reflux issues, but maybe she is just done. I did pump after her last feeding and was only able to get just under an ounce, so I guess she got enough! Lots of wet diapers here, too.

Yes, my guys are all fast nursers, but I think that's because I have a very strong letdown reflex. We're usually done in about 7 minutes, unless someone wants to hang out and "play."
