Lucy & Sunny were born on March 26th, 2008…Ca.

These Monoamniotic twins were born at exactly 33 weeks gestation. They were born at 4 lbs 1 oz and 16 and ¾ inches long each – IDENTICAL….of course. They had stopped growing the last week they were in the womb. They don’t have any birthmarks….that we can see yet.

The NICU has been a “normal” stay from what I can tell. CPAP…nasal canulas…surfactant….and a small arterial umbilical cord surgical procedure to continue to check for accurate O2 levels…some sodium bicarbonate….checking gases…etc.

I think for 33 weeks gestation they are at were they should be.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT THE NICU STAY LET ME KNOW!!!

sorry - I will post pictures later - just wanted to give an update and get some feedback about NICU - if possible.

What FANTASTIC news !!!... You should be very proud of yourself for nurturing you little ones into the world considering all the complications during pregnancy with mo/mo twins..... That is just AWESOME....

I hope their stay in NICU is short and sweet.

Am over the moon for you.

Congrats! My boys were 33wk 1 day and only 3lbs 3ozs and 3lbs 11ozs! Hooray for your great weights! Feel free to PM me if you have NICU questions and the NICU forum is great. We all know exactly what you are going through. Just to give you a little hope, here's a pic of my "little" guys at 5 months (quadrupled in weight).

    Congrats on your babies.

Please visit the NICU forum during your stay, there are lots of supportive ladies in there and we've all been there. As for the NICU stay it is so individualized it is really hard to give you suggestions about it. Just take it one day at a time, write down any questions you have for the nurses/drs., and write down the info. they tell you each day, it is a lot and you will not remember all of it. Call anytime! I would call each morning and let them know when I'd be down. I would go down in the morning to help with 2 feedings, my DH would stop on his way home from work, and then we'd always call before going to bed. Get involved in their care as much as possible. Ask to kangaroo them, when they are able and help feed/BF when the time comes as well. I hope their stay is short. :love0028:

(sounds like you two are the light in your momma's life!)

thanks so much for all of the support - I am grateful that they are alive and healthy. Good suggestions about the NICU - I will visit the NICU forum and get more suggestions. Right now they are not on any "real" food - so I am pumping - and freezing- but we will see when they are able to eat "real" food.....

My 32 week twins had a 17 NICU stay. They just basically needed to learn how to eat. I hope that you have a short stay. Everyone will tell you this.... and you probably won't listen (just like me), but right now is the time to get your rest. Once your twins are home you will have no time to yourself. The NICU nurses are wonderful and will take great care of your twins when you are away. That being said - I was the mom sitting crib side 12+ hours a day :)

I'm sure you are sad to have your babies away from you and staying in the NICU - but it is the best place for them. They will be home before you know it. It happens fast!

My twins were on CPAP one day, canula for a couple days, and then it was just a matter of taking their food from the bottle. I pumped and they were eating breast milk from the bottle.

Are your twins in the same isolette or crib? I hope they get to be next to each other. Keep your chin up...... the NICU will be behind you soon.

they are not in the same isolette or near each other right now, but I hope they will be soon. I am so grateful for your comments....Thanks! They are now 1 week and 2 days old...Lucy and sunny are both off of the VENT, but Sunny has a nasal canual still - I am hoping she will be able to breathe on her own by tomorrow. I have not been able to hold her yet - I am hoping today. Lucy starting getting feed my breast milk - and so far just a little residual....I have been able to hold Lucy. I cannot wait to bring them home. They are both maintaining their weight at 4 lbs.
