    Hi all,

I just thought I would write something I discovered this morning about my tween. At my sons old school, last year, school started at 8:30 AM… the sun was always up… and he was always in good spirits… well as this school year proceeded… his morning attitude was SO bad I found myself hiding from him… I went from making him yummy breakfasts to popping a bowl out before he got up and went to my office… or even pretended to be still asleep to avoid him and the BIG chip on his shoulder (He has to leave for the bus stop at 6:50am and that means he gets up in the dark and sometimes walks in the dark... w/ his Dad and dog). Well over the last few weeks I noticed he is back to his sleepy, good spirited self in the AM… no chip, WAY less tude… and it hit me… he now wakes up AFTER the sunrise… the good news is I was worried this was the “new teen DS” until he moved out… and now I know it’s the “DS in the winter”. I will make sure he is aware of this when he is older and gets to pick classes and or job…

OK had to write this out somewhere… thought maybe it would help some one else...Shed some “light” on their situation :pardon:

Heh it's not just teenagers. There is a marked difference in Alice's behavior too. She's become, dare I say it, pleasant in the mornings?

Well I notice it is EASIER for me to get out of bed  (though I don’t walk into the kitchen w/ the most pissed off look on my face  )… so I guess your right… its almost funny how sleepy and smiley :lazy: he is now compared to Dec-Jan sleepy and GRUMPY :aggressive:

I have a problem with seasonal affective disorder, so a friend recommended a goLite.. it shines blue light on your face when you get up in the morning and it makes a HUGE difference! I can totally get through the day now. Maybe your son could try it out?

So I am hiding in my office once again… today (first day back after the time change) means we are up in the dark before school starts… made the boy oatmeal (so he didn’t wake the rest of the house in his grumpy stooper) and ran away… I was talking to my older brother (42) and he reminded me of all his stories until he was 15+… in an odd way, I felt better but bummed I may have to live like this for 2 + years :BDH:

I think age 13 is one of the worst teen years anyway. After that their hormones seem to settle down and the melt downs become less frequent. I never really paid attention to their attitudes in relation to the sunshine though. Luckily it is still getting lighter earlier and earlier. Luckily for me, I leave for work before they all get up and the fighting commences. :D

I think this is what threw me… I am SO a morning person… I love being up early (when I am rested… sleepless nights due to 2 toddlers does not make a good morning person) …. But for the most part… I love the still and quiet of the morning…
I must update… I must have over reacted Monday morning as he has be ok waking up in the am in the dark all week… no chip on his shoulder… just sleepy… BUT I also took his Ipod touch away at night (giving it back at breakfast so he can have it on the bus)…. So maybe he’s just getting a full night sleep… not staying up watching back episodes of “Lost”

Yes, I suppose you are a different kind of teen.. lol

I love getting up before everyone too, but I also love sleeping in now and then (which I've done all week). Early morning is the only time I have to myself.
