I think I may have screwed up yesterday. I took they girls out yesterday and they needed some sunblock. I didn't really think unitl it was too late. All I had with us was some SPF 50 that I usually use so I just put it on them. Is there such a thing as baby sunblock? If so, did I hurt them by using the other stuff?

Yes... at wal mart they have a few different brands... Water Babies and Baby Blanket were the two brands I always used.

Forgot to Mention... I also used Avon Skin so soft, the strawberry flavored kind, it was the sunblock, bug repellent and something else, all in one bottle.

I usually only use the baby sunblock on mine, but I don't think the "adult" sunblock will hurt them. The baby kind is probably better for sensitive skin and less irritating to their eyes if they rub them, but it won't hurt them! I always make sure to give mine a bath after wearing sunscreen, it seems like it's not good to leave it on their skin.

Ditto what Melissa. Also, I think I read somewhere that you should not use sunscreen on babies under 6 month of age. Read the labels. [IMG]

Ya, the stuff I used said not for under 6 months. But since it was all I had, and they are only 2 days from 6 months, I decided it was better than nothing. I did give them a bath as soon as I got home. I'll pick up some of the stuff you guys mentioned when I go to Wally World tonight.

I live in CO where we're at a higher altitude and the sun is intense. The rule of thumb here is that ANY sunblock is better than none, and my doctor said it was fine to use it on them their first summer (they were born in April, so they were still newborns their first summer)

But I do use baby sunblock and I have tubes of it everywhere - in the stroller, in my car, in my diaper bags. I prefer Banana Boat products to Coppertone Water Babies. I hated the smell and consistency of Water Babies.

When I was on vcation I used the Water Babies Sunblock. A piece of advice for anyone that ready this, don't put it on their faces. I did and it was a mess, the girls rubbed their nose and got it into their eyes. Boy, did I pay for that mistake!

My babies were born end of April, so they were still really young last summer. I asked the dr, and she said the kind from Avon is ok to use...."Skin so soft". It's missing whatever ingredient that's in the other sunblocks they don't want kids to have.

I wouldn't worry, though, if they're so close to being 6 mos I'm sure it's fine.

I remember last summer taking them to a farmer's market outside....they had hats on & we were only there for about 5 minutes. Tops. Anyway, some lady in her booth starts screaming at us saying babies can get sunburns, too & basically we were horrible parents. We ignored her & walked on....but it was so rude.
