Being that it's Memorial Day weekend and we live at the beach, I'm sure we'll be outdoors this weekend. What sun screens have you used on your LOs that you would reccommend?

    Thanks!

ps...for those who read my thread about getting out alone, I'm taking the girls plus big brother out by myself today...fingers crossed!

I was told no sunscreen before 6 months ... maybe call your pedi and verify that it's ok for you to use it, and they can recommend a safe and gentle one.

The pedi had recommended one by Bull Frog, but I thought I'd ask here too. She did say not to put it on their arms or hands, as those go straight to the mouth.

I think the no sunscreen before 6 months rule has been modified. Our pedi said definitely do sunscreen. I really love this sunscreen stick we got from California baby. It seems to be more of a sit-on-top-of-the-skin kind, like the neon zinc oxide of our youth, but it's very light/clear and you can rub it in a little. It's extremely easy for putting on their faces and ears and neck, and I am liking it a lot for arms and legs too. Plus, it's more natural.

Danielle, I think I just used a 'baby' sunblock on them, no specific brand that I remember. I would go with the Bullfrog though if that is what your ped recommends. Good luck on getting out with them! You will do great. Have a great weekend.

Love California Baby...I still use it on the boys and have used it on Bella. My ped said, if you must be out, the benefit of using sunscreen outweighs any "risks." (disclaimer: this my ped, do as your own ped recommends or as you feel comfortable).

Many sunscreens, even for babies, contain parabens as a preservative. Parabens are hormonal disruptors and convert to phytoestrogens in the body - and yes, they are absorbed through the skin. On top of that, these same sunscreens contain carcinogens. While these chemicals have been used for a long time and were thought to be safe, the news has only come out in the last few years about how harmful they are. Only recently have a lot of companies been reformulating to make safer products.

Neutrogena just put out a sunscreen that has safer ingredients. Other than that, Avalon Organics, Jason, Alba, California Baby, and Kiss My Face are some brands I've seen that have safer formulations. We use the new Neutrogena spray for children for the body and Avalon Organics or California Baby for the face.

If you ever have concerns about the products you use, try looking them up in the EWG database. It will tell you a safety rating and give a list of what problems the ingredients are known to cause (if any).

    Hey Danielle,
I hope that this rain stops and gets pretty so you can take the kids outside and enjoy the weekend!
We used and still use Aveeno Baby SPF 55.

Good Luck & Have Fun :)
