Suggestions on how to get her to relax on the potty to pee?

We just started this past week (and not necessarily consistently...it was a long week without PT involved ) but they're consisitenly wanting underwear and have for a while been telling me immediately after they've gone.

They haven't even actually made it to the potty do to anything yet. But love to go sit in the bathroom (and then wash hands, mainly wash hands ). I've got two perfectly good Baby Bjorn potties in the living room, but that's not where they want to go!

Anyway, Searra the past couple of days will tell me "Wet, wet!" I truck her over to the bathroom and there's a dime sized wet spot in her underwear. She'll then sit on the potty, long enough to sing a couple of quick songs and then wants to get down. We then go back to the living room and she then proceeds to pee a flood! She's holding it long enough that she's only peeing a couple of times a day.

So, any suggestions on getting her to relax enough to let loose while we're in the bathroom??? And not on my carpet! I really think once that first connection is made on "how" to let go, she's going to be golden.

Does she like books? You might be able to hold her attention and distract her just a little bit longer with a couple of good stories. Thanks for your question though because I'm having the same issue with my son and I didn't even remember to bring out the books until I answered you. :fool:

I'd try TV or lollipops or both?

We would turn the sink faucet on a little bit, so that it makes a trickling sound. At the same time we distracted DD with some kind of candy (we used gummy bears).

I'm having the same problem with my son. He can hold it if he wants for hours but he hardly ever goes on the potty. He will pee just enough to get a little something in the potty but then 5min later he will totally wet hit undies and everything else. He reads books while on the potty and I have tried yogurt cover raisins but it doesn't work. He has even sat on the potty for 30min (I let him watch some tv) and he refused to get off until he went. Well he went only a tiny bit and then about 5-10min later his pants were soaked. Right now I him back in diapers and just have him sit on the potty when he asks (which is very rare) and at certain times of the day. I figure I will give him a little more time and then try to potty train him again when it's warmer and won't soak my rug but the grass outside if he has an accident. Good luck with your training. If you find something that works please let us know.

Books work for my kiddos also.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Another non successful day today.

We tried TV (to get them to use the closer, far more convenient little potties) which worked a little. No one was interested in stories today :( but we did sing songs on the big potty. So they did at least sit today. I also introduced a sticker chart for at least sitting on the potty to start and they got pissed that I didn't let them wander around with the charts

I think we would have had a breakthrough with Searra today but I picked the wrong girl to go to the big potty :( Ellie asked first and then Searra did, neither one had peed recently so I grabbed Ellie and when we were in the bathroom I heard "Mommy, legs all wet!" Sigh...

I know we'll get there, and it's only been a couple of days and I may need to take a step back, but this has been making me twitch for some reason! Oh, yeah, the wall to wall carpet open concept house (minus the half bath on the main level that's around a corner and through baby gates to contain the dogs/girls interaction...that certainly doesn't help.

On a positive note, I think I'll have enough justification to rip up the carpets like I want to and install hardwood after their trained! :D

I slowly pour a warm cup of water on the boys groin area to get them started, warm water works every time. After they are done they get a few stickers as a reward.
