The girls turned one in July....their adjusted one year will be end of August. They only get their binkies during naps and bedtime at night. Olivia is REALLY dependent on the binkie to sleep. If she wakes in the middle of the night and doesn't have it, she'll cry. My pedi said to get rid of the binkies by 15 months. Since you can't reason with a 15month old and tell them the binkie fairy took them, how in the world do I take them away? I really don't want to lose naps because of this...nor do I want screaming at bedtime. I feel like I want them to have the binkie while sleeping until they are old enough to understand. What do you suggest? If I have to take them away now, what are some ways to do that? Poke a hole in the end?

    Thanks,

I was all ready to take it away at 15 months and she seemed somewhat conducive to it, but then she got roseola and that all went out the window. So my new goal is 18 months. Just one of mine takes a paci, and just at nap and bedtime.

Susan, how were you planning to take it away?

I waited until recently, it was just a few weeks ago. I wanted to wait until they could understand, like do a binky fairy thing. We boxed them up and said they were going to new babies. It's gone pretty well. Our doctor never said when to get rid of them, left it up to us. I don't think there is an age when you "have" to, just whatever you are comfortable with.

I think 18 months to 2 years is still easy. They just have to go cold turkey. You can definitely do it. :)

I personally don't think there is a rush if they like them and it comforts them. My oldest was 3 before we gave it away totally. At 2.5 she had to start throwing it back in her bed when she woke up, from then on she only had it for sleeping. That Christmas we gave it to Santa and it worked great. She left them and a note under the tree and he gave her a special gift in exchange for her pacis.
