Suggestions for making diaper changing easier?

Lately, my DD refuses to lie down during her diaper change. We used to be able to distract her by giving her new things to look at (i.e. a book, a toy, whatever else we could find that was safe, etc.), but now nothing seems to placate her. The only thing that seems to work is having another person assist me or giving her a bottle. Unfortunately, I do not always have someone else here with me and her diaper changes do not always coincide with a feeding and she does not like to drink water. Any suggestions?

I sing to distract mine or make noises so they look at me until they laugh or "talk" to me. [IMG]

I don't have advice since mine aren't at that stage yet, but I just had to reply to say it makes me laugh when I read about things that will be in the future for me...makes me realize that the craziness never ends. One thing just gets replaced by something else!!

I give them a 'nontoy' item that they really want, like the nose sucker or the baby brush. Those are a treat!

we've been practicing putting on their diapers while they're sitting or standing up. HA! the things we have to learn to do...

I am not a mommy yet, but I love to come over here for tips and info. I taught special needs preschool and I would always have the kids stand up the change their diaper. It was much easier because they were so squirmy and wouldn't lie still.

Looks like I'm going to have to learn how to do it while she stands up. The cowboy roping a cow analogy is hilarious...and true! It really does feel like that since she's constantly moving and squirming around. [IMG]
