For the past three days, I have been getting these sudden awful headaches that just make me want to pop my head off! I am just assuming it is from all the extra blood flow at this point in the pregnancy.

Anyone else experience this? Anyone have a good remedy? I have been taking tylenol for it, and sometimes that works, but then it comes back with a vengeance later. What to do?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

It can also be from rising hormone levels. I would call your OB so they can check your blood pressure out. Once she ruled out pre-eclampsia she told that often estrogen can cause migraines and since I have one giant placenta, that means even more estrogen. She asked if I needed more than Tylenol and I told her no-she told me absolutely no ibuprofen (some docs let you after a certain point, but she is a real stickler!!) she also said that adding a caffienated drink with the Tylenol would help. I have also found that cold compresses on my forehead and back of neck has worked wonders. My headaches have decreased a lot in the 2nd trimester though- Good luck

I did, and is still experiencing it. I usually sleep it away, or I'll take painkillers given by my Dr. I read up about it and seems to be one of the symptoms of pregnancy due to hormonal changes as the previous post mentioned. Drinking enough water can also rule out the possibility of you having headache due to dehydration.

Yup, I got horrrrrible headaches in the first/second trimester & also got migranes. My dr. prescribed me a pain killer for those 'really bad ones' which helped :)
    I hope you feel better!!!

What did your dr. prescribe you, if you don't mind me asking? I have a script for vicodin that mine gave me a while ago (though I haven't gotten it filled yet)--he gave it to me for "just in case". But I didn't want to take anything like that until after 12 weeks (dr. said it may or may not affect brain development before 12 weeks, and I didn't want to chance it).

Anyway, just wondering if there was something besides that that your dr. prescribed that helped you.

    Thanks!

I used to get really bad pregnancy headaches, especially at work when I was in my first and second trimesters. I used to sip Coke and turn the florescent lights off (just use lamp light or natural sunlight). The caffeine in the Coke really helped.

    Hi Suzanne,

Yep, I started getting them really bad around 12 weeks too. Good news is I stopped getting them about Week 16 which I hope can be the case for you, too! Hubby suffers from awful sinus headaches/infections and thought the pains sounded like his; a sharp throbbing right behind the eyes, all encompassing, couldn't think about anything else while having one ... ugh! I started taking Tylenol Sinus which didn't help hugely but my Twinstuff Big Sister recommended I drink LOTS of water and really up the protein and this worked a treat (Cottage cheese is my favorite quick protein fix).

Good luck - bad headaches just suck so you really have my sympathy!!

Thanks, Molly. This one today just doesn't want to let go of me. Sipping on a Coke right now--hoping that will help. Just took some more Tylenol about an hour ago, but it still is not helping.

I emailed my doctor--he gives his email address to his pregnant patients for the myriad of questions we all have! He's really awesome. I usually get a response from him within a few hours, so hopefully he will have a good suggestion.

I have been getting migraines from the very beginning. My doc prescribed Tylenol 3, which really didn't work any better than 2 extra strength Tylenol. The lastest suggestion is Tylenol Sinus...I have not tried it yet, becase I'm not really a Tylenol fan. But, the key for me is water and taking Extra Strength Tylenol just as soon as I know I'm getting a headache. Like a migraine, you really have to be diligent, recognize the symptoms and try to stay ahead of it. I know it is terrible, I'm struggling too.

I got them really, really bad at the end and the headaches were from high blood pressure, and I hate pre-eclampsia. I'm not POSITIVE but I am pretty sure you can't get that this early in pregnancy but I would definitely get your blood pressure taken! Probably just hormones like pp said. I blame everything on hormones! Even now!

I got those Headaches too, yuck. I too had preeclampsia in near the end as well, those headaches were different... I felt more aggitated with the BP headaches, I had less patience.

I've had them the whole pregnancy. They went away for a while but seem to have graced me with their prescence again. The doctor said he could give me some other meds, but I really didn't and still don't want to take them, I feel like all I do is pop pills. But, he did tell me to take tylenol and soda and it seems to help with most of them.

They were awful. I finally started seeing a chiropractor to help with them, not sure what her did but it really helped. I also found that if I ate chocolate it would be severe.

My doctor said to take the vicodin he prescribed. It works, but the headaches keep coming back! I emailed him and said I don't want to continue to depend on the vicodin (I'm only taking one pill per day, but still!) as I'm sure that the headaches aren't just going to stop in a day or two if it is hormones. He said he would try to think of an alternative at my next appointment (next Wednesday!).

Is it going to hurt the babies taking one pill (vicodin) per day? Or should I just suffer through it, just using tylenol and a soda? I don't know what to do.

Thanks everyone for your input so far--I really do appreciate it!
