My LO's (especially DS) have been sucking down 8 oz. bottles. They have been doing 4 bottles a day and I have added solids 2-3x a day. Sometimes they wake at 4-5 for a feed or they sleep until morning. I have tried to stretch their feeding times to 4 hours but the past week they havent been able to make it. Today they did 8 oz at 4:30, 8 oz. at 7:30 and 8oz. at 10:30 and they still have two more feedings. I tried to get to 11 but my DS was loosing his mind.

My question is did anyone do more tham 8 oz? My bottles are only 8 oz. When your LO's got to this point did you give them more solids?

Mine are still on a 2 hr schedule [6.5 oz]. I'd be soo happy if they'd go 3 hrs :)

It sounds like you're doing a good job. Maybe they're going through a growth spurt. I also am doing 2-3 solids/day, but I am giving them snacks 1-2 times a day as well.

my DS will usually take a 9oz bottle and sometimes acts like he wants more, he is a little piggy... i have them on a 3.5 hour schedule during the day, with 2 solid meals, one am and one pm. but he uses avent bottles which easily hold 9oz. you use dr. brown's, right? my DD uses those and i think you can fill them to 8.5oz before you will start having a problem with leaking.

i don't think there is anything wrong with offering as much formula as they are willing to drink. they will stop when they are full (unlike myself-i'd better put this bag of sunchips away before they are gone! :p )

At that age we were still at 5 bottles per day and I think they were 7 oz. or 8 oz. Plus we were doing cereal & fruit and veggies too. How quickly are they downing the bottles? Max's all time record is 1 minute 30 seconds for an 8 oz. bottle, where Lily takes about 10 minutes on a good day. I think you are on track though.

It sounds like your little ones are doing great! If you think they will take more then 8oz, I don't know what kind of bottles you use but if you use the Playtex drop in kind, they do have expandable liners up to 10 oz. Most of the nutrition does come from formula at this age.

My pedi old me if they are hungry earlier than two hours (formula fed) then they are not getting enough. It sounds like you are doing fine. At this age If you want them to go to four hours you might try offering a bit more solids and adding a couple of small snacks (puffs) in between.

They could very well be going through a growth spurt right now. Growth spurts are around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months (more or less). My boys are getting ready to turn 4 mos in one week and one of them is already showing signs of eating 6oz instead of his usual 4oz. He will do this for at least 2 weeks and then go back to 4oz, possibly. He may stay at 6oz this time.

My DS is at 7-8 oz every 4 hours and DD is around 5-6 every 4 hours. They're only 2.5 months old. Yikes! ;)

I think I was doing 4 bottles at this age plus a fruit puree solid meal and DS was taking around 8oz or more each time. It sounds like they are doing fine and are probably going through a growth spurt. It´s great that they are eating so well! :D
