Recently I found some wonderful news that changes our birth plan and opens it up to more options. I’m wondering how many ladies had successful vaginal deliveries with mono/di twins. I’m really hoping I can do a vag-birth. I know that it all depends on babies’ position, health, moms’ health, ect. But I would love to know if other ladies have had successful deliveries. Anyone who went all natural would be a plus; I would like to avoid any medication if possible and NO EPIDURALS... Crazy, I know.

    Thanks Ladies!

I belong to a site that many women have had successful full term, vaginal deliveries. One lady just delivered di/di twins over 40 weeks gestation, vaginally, at home! The site is www.mothering.com It's a wonderful site full of very informative women!

    Christina,

Maybe post this over in the First Year forum so the ladies who have had their babies read it? You might get more stories that way. I wish I could say I had a successful vaginal delivery (I had hoped for a home water birth before I knew it was twins) but I had a C-section because my girls were breech and transverse.

I successfully vaginally delivered my twins. They presented vertex and transverse. After Baby A was delivered, the doctor attempted to coax Baby B to come down head first. But she was not having it. She kept putting her feed down, so he pulled her out breech. It was a sort of dire situation with Baby B because he had to get her out quickly and she got stuck. But everything turned out fine.
I did have an epidural ( a really great one) so I felt nothing which was what I was going for. So I can't help you on that issue.

My mo/di twins were c-section, but because they were both breech and had been for quite some time. We also had TTTS. So, even if they were both vertex, I may have looked into the c-section option anyway, because of the risk of acute TTTS at birth - since we knew we were already dealing with it.

I think a good place to ask this question is the TTTS foundation expecting message board - you'll get many opinions there as well.

Because you have mo/di twins, the options for vaginal delivery may be a bit different because of the risk of acute TTTS - of course, it can be done, but there is that complication as well.

I really wanted a vaginal delivery too, I delivered my DS vaginally, and was sure I could do it with twins. Then TTTS hit, and I didn't care anymore. I just wanted them out and alive. They made the decision for me by staying breech, and for that I'm kind of grateful - I probably would have always wondered if I could have delivered them vaginally or not. One of mine only had an apgar of 3, so I'm glad she came by c-section because she may not have made a vaginal delivery. But now, sure enough, I have them, out and alive and healthy!

But I understand, a c-section is no walk in the park!

I hope to be able to manage to deliver my mono-di babies vaginally, (my DS was almost 13 lb and I managed to poop him out! lol) but I know I won't be allowed to do it naturally. I live in England now, and it's required here with any multiple birth to have an epidural already in place in case any intervention is neccesary. At this point, I don't care how they get here, so much as that they GET here and we're all healthy! I'm betting by the time it rolls around you'll be much more willing to think about what compromises you may have to make. Even when I was just having the one I was all "GET HIM OUT. NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I don't care if you have to use cuticle scissors and a piece of rope!"
(My old doc still tells other Moms about me saying that to him...he laughed so hard!)

    Good Luck Mama! :D

Lol.. My goal is to have them vaginally too! My doctor told me if I'm crazy enough to want it natural she will allow it  I had a bad experience with a epi with the first one and wish not to go down that road again...

Good luck too I hope you can too! heres to having some heads down in the weeks to come!

I had a successful one, although I needed the drugs. The contractions were getting so intense I could hardly breathe, not to scare you. I don't deal with pain very well. It was too late for an epidural, I dialated too fast. so they gave me a saddleblock which numbs, but doesn't last as long.

I delivered my two without any problems!

I might need to look into that.

The last hospital I gave birth at told me it was a epidural or nothing and if I didn't get it right then, come alittle while later I wouldn't be allowed to get it... Well.. They gave it to me at only 4cm, took them 4times to get it in and by the time it came to push, I could feel everything(I actually started feeling everything at 6cm, but the anesthesiologist could not come back he was in surgery. <_< ). I was so upset, I felt let down by my epidural and nurse.

I’m not super woman; I just don’t want the major let down. If I knew I was going to be experiencing all that pain, I would have done things a bit differently... So I figured this time, why not just start my way from the beginning...

yeah this thing was awesome, I never heard of it before. the shot was very quick and painless, well less painful than what I was already in :D
The numbness kicked in within seconds of it, but it only numbs your pelvic area not your stomache. So after the babies were born and it came to pushing out the placentas, the doctor was pushing on my stomach to get them to come out. I felt that and it did not feel good. almost wanted to kick the doctor :D

Thanks so much, I will have to discuss this option with my DR. Fingers crossed they dont give me some BS story.. I hate that!

Both my girls were delivered vaginally. Their positions were vertex/vertex. Everything went smoothly. I was induced at 38 wks 2 days. From induction to the birth of Alyssa total time was 6.5 hrs. I had an Epidural about 3.5 hrs into it though

Whether your twins are mo/di or di/di shouldn't make any difference during delivery, unless you end up with Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome, then that's a whole 'nother situation. :)

In any case, my girls were born vaginally and were my easiest delivery yet! I did have an epidural, but no other problems. Some doctors won't deliver vaginally unless both babies are head-down, but my doctor was fine with delivering mine as long as Baby A was head down. Baby B was breach in my case, but flipped around right in time for her birth 7 minutes after her sister.

That was the reason I asked what women did it successfully with Mono/di. Im so thankful for the ones who posted from the other end of the specturm, so I could see both sides of delivery. Not to mention the doctors are 98% sure they are mono/di due to earlier issues. I just wanted a little BOST to know I could hopefully have the Birth plan I had always wanted! With the twin-type I have

Im so glad you brought that up too! So I can double check as we get closer just how she feels about delivering a breech baby! So far she is ok with it... key words: so far!
Thanks so much for all the info again ladies, you have given me hope and a look into all aspects of delivery for mono/di twins :hug99:

I had a vaginal delivery with mono/di and Twin to Twin Transfusion. I had an epidural, though, because if I would have needed an emergency C Section at any time I wanted to be awake. Good luck!
