My older children are both girls, so I have never had this issue before... I'm hoping someone will have some advice!
My son seems to pee out of the top of his diaper. It isn't as though the diaper is full, he just seems to miss the diaper and get his clothes wet. Sometimes the pee runs around the band of the diaper and leaks out of the top of the back. I know it is going to sound stupid, but am I supposed to be aiming his penis down? I feel like we are going through at least twice the laundry we should because he is wet so often, not to mention what a pain it is to keep washing their crib sheets.
Thanks for any advice you guys have to offer!

My little boy does that too. He is probably going to have surgery to fix it. When he is in the bathdo you notice if he pee straight up? Talk to your ped about it. It sounds like he will need surgery to fix it. Good luck!

Try aiming his little penis down. We had to do that with both our boys to avoid leak through. I agree with Erin though, make sure your ped checks it out well next visit. However, I bet it will most likely be resolved by aiming his penis down. HTH!

point his penis down. see if that helps. I have never had that problem, but I always make sure it's down. I hope that is all it is and not something serious requiring surgery!

I've never had to point any of my boys' penis down. It's fairly common for the hole to not be centered, maybe that's the case? You should be able to tell just by looking at his penis.

Actually, it isn't uncommon for this to happen with boys. Just keep pointing his penis down, that should solve it.

I had to keep pointing Sean's little squirt gun down before we stopped peeing around the diaper.

My older ds did this all the time, just aim him down. I never heard of needing surgery to correct that. If he is peeing straight up, I find its usually a result of being semi-erect. My first ds was ALWAYS in that state; at about 5 he stopped "saluting" all the time.

Happened all the time with my ds when he was little. I stopped noticing it so much around 3-4 months....it was just the newborn phase where it seemed he peed out of every diaper. Point it down!

as pp said (no pun intended [IMG]) point down. Our boys started to do less of the what we called the 'empty diaper' syndrome as they got bigger, plus we discovered that the diapers needed to go up a size.

You could also try a piece of gauze over his penis... they used that in the NICU to catch the pee to do thier tests...hth!

Point it down. Ours did this until they were about 4 months old...it's just a part of having boys! [IMG]

Aim down AND fold the top of the diaper in and down (like they probablyy did in the hospital).

Surgery is way overkill, I think. Aim it over the scrotum. One of the twins is so large it snakes out of the diaper and peeds on the sides of his clothes (TMI I KNOW) and I have to make sure his is centered. I hate doing it, but it's gotta be done!

We had to aim Nolan's down because we had the same issue. We are starting to have leaking issues with Liam now, too, so I will try the same solution.

I had a daughter first too. Same thing happened with me with my twin boys, I was doing baby laundry daily. My sister-in-law (with 3 boys) told me to point it down and that made a big difference. I thought it was some crappy diapers but I had tried several different brands, so the pointing down trick helped. Hope it helps you too.
