Good morning everyone. Hope you are all doing well.

Today I need some input. My kiddos have had stuffy noses for two weeks. I figured it was a cold since my son had it first, then my daughter and then I got it. Well, I am doing better, but the kids still have it. They can breathe through their noses somewhat, but it sounds like it is filled with yucky snot. YUCK!! I try to have them blow their noses but nothing comes out. I have had the vaporizer going and have tried saline noses drops, but they hate those drops. Anyone else have this? They haven't had any other symptoms...no fever, cough...nothing! I am confused! They are supposed to have their 3 year checkup and flu shots on Thursday...I just feel like a bad mom for not taking them to the doctor already. They are acting fine and playing just like normal. Any input is sooooo appreciated. :)

I posted something similar about month ago, and someone suggested ALLERGIES. I think they were right. I called the peds office and they called in Zyrtec, which seems to be helping. I thought it was a cold too, but it never would go away (for good) and the "snot" was clear not green/yellow...always clear. You could call and see what your ped says (about possible allergies) or just wait until Thurs (I think you said that's when their appt is). As long as they aren't feeling bad (or acting like they feel bad), no fever or other symptoms, they probably won't do much anyway. I know how you feel though because I felt the same way.
Hope their check-ups go well and their colds (whatever it is) get cleared up soon!

Emma has been stuffed up for about 2 weeks. We haven't given her anything since the first night. She seems to be fine besides the nose. I am going to ask DR tomorrow at our 15 month appt.

Please let me know what the doctor says.. I am curious since my kids are the same way.

It may be allergies...I guess I will find out on Thursday. Thanks again for your input. :)

I would guess allergies. Have you tried Mucinex? It'll loosen that phlegm and at least move it out.

Allergies is my thought too. My DD has the same symptoms. She has taken Zyrtec and it helps.

Just getting back to you about our appt today. The dr wasn't concerned at all about the stuffy nose. She said it could be allergies. She said as long as there is no fever not to worry and let it run its course.

    Hope that helps!

Mine had snotty noses almost continuously all last winter, and I'm expecting it again this winter. Supposedly it can't be the same cold that whole time, but they can get different viruses in quick succession. No matter how long it lasts, I don't worry about it unless they seem miserable or if it's making them cough a lot.

My girls have had stuffy noses for over a week now and it just turned into a cough so I did take them to the ped yesterday and they are fine, just a cold. I know how you feel though, I never know when to take them in or not.

I took Beau in today as it seems like he caught my nasty cold from last week :(
I read an article on the Pedi's bulletin board that said it's actually normal for some children to have 10-12 colds/year.
    I had NO idea.

Okay..I took the kiddos in to the doctor today and they said it was allergies. I find it so weird because they have never had anything like this before. The doctor prescribed Zyrtec. For those of you who use this, you have said that it helps. Does it get rid of it? I have never had allergies so I do not know what is normal. It just goes away on its own? Thanks to those of you who responded. I hope those of you with ill babies get over it real quick. This time of year is a bummer huh?

didn't see you responded to this until now. . .
is the Zyrtec helping? It's one of those things that can take a few days to really start noticing the benefits.

Well, when I told my husband, he was against putting them on the Zyrtec. We went on the internet and did a lot of searches on it and saw that the side effects were potentially worse then the initial problem. They seem to be doing a little better now. My son has the worst of it, but he is improving. I changed the filter in our home, cleaned really well (ceiling fans, etc.) and bathed the dog. I just need to keep up on it. Thanks for checking back with me. :)

We have had stuffy runny noses for 1 month!!! My kids have never had allergies, and it does not seem to bother them. I think with all this damp weather and change of season.....ya know?
