    Hi everyone,

I am really new to this forum. I am expecting two little boys in March, and I am currently 28 weeks 2 days along. I had a really lousy day and I guess I am looking for some encouragement, to hear from the ladies who have been through or are going through the same thing I am. On Christmas Eve my doctor found evidence of funneling and put me on immediate bed rest. I continued working from bed rest, I am on a very busy project with crazy deadlines so I work a lot of overtime, which is pretty easy to do because I am stuck in bed - it's not like I am going anywhere. Then I had my glucose tolerance test and flunked it. My doctor sent me for a follow-up 3-hour glucose tolerance test and this morning I found out that I flunked that one as well. So now I am on bed rest with funneling and I have gestational diabetes, I have to strictly control my diet and I may need insulin shots (will find out after my third glucose tolerance test next week). I am upset that I am having all these complications and I am really scared about my weight. I feel enormous, even though people keep telling me that I am small for twins... But when I get weighed I feel like crying. I currently weight... GASP... 230 lbs! This is almost 100 lbs over my normal weight! I got pregnant via IVF, and I had complications from that, I ended up having a very severe case of OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome), which made me gain a crazy amount of weight in a very short period of time. I went from my fairly normal 145 lbs to about 175 lbs before I was even pregnant, and then I just kept on gaining weight during pregnancy, and my doctor kept telling me not to worry, that all is fine and I am supposed to be gaining this weight. And then when I found out today just how much I weigh and then that I have gestational diabetes.... oh man. She sent me to the diabetes center to get dietary guidelines and the woman there told me - absolutely, positively NO JUICES during pregnancy! Why, why am I just finding this out at 28 weeks? I was chugging OJ by the gallon thinking it was good for the babies! I feel so stupid because I just did not know this and now I might have done this to myself... Also I can't have any sweets anymore, and almost no fruit, all vegetables and lean protein, very low carbs, timing my meals, etc., etc. I am so scared that I will never take the weight off, that I will be big as a whale even after I give birth, and that diabetes will stick around. And to make matters worse I am pretty much immobile, I have had this sharp pain on the left side of my groin from the start of the pregnancy that kept getting worse as pregnancy progressed, and now the pain is absolutely excruciating when I shift weight or change positions in any way, so even going to the bathroom is a painful ordeal. I am just feeling really low and I would love to hear from anyone who has been through this or is going through this, any words of encouragement. Thanks everyone, and sorry I rambled on and on... I guess I am just so glad to have someone I can talk to about this.

I haven't been through the GD, but I just wanted to send some hugs your way! This is my second pregnancy where I have ended up on bedrest though. The first my membranes ruptured at 27 weeks and I had PTD at 30 weeks. Now I am already starting to dilate. As for the weight, my sister gained over 70lbs with her DD. It took some work, but she was able to lose it all. Right now just focus on your diet and keeping those babies cooking! Oh, and by the way, I have never heard that pregnant women are not allowed to have juice...That's just crazy talk. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and of course the hugs! :) I am sorry you are on bed rest too... membranes rupturing sounds very serious, don't know what PTD is but probably serious stuff too... Hang in there! All will be well... it has to be, right?

Everything has to be well...as long as we all don't go insane ;) Thank goodness we all have computers to keep us entertained! Oh, PTD is pre term delivery. Talk more later!

Please don't stress. I have been on bedrest for three weeks for funneling and shortened cervix. I was hysterical the first day and most of the first week. I was convinced my babies were going to be born severely premature and not survive. Here is some good news, I have been on bedrest for three weeks and so far everything is going well. You are in your 28th week and that is a good place to be. Your babies are viable and the longer you keep them in there cooking the better. Take the bedrest seriously, I really believe it helps and I have read so many posts from women on bedrest who went on to deliver near 33-35 weeks.
As for gestational diabetes it is serious but easily controlled. Diet is a HUGE component, so please listen to your doctors and watch your diet. You may end up not needing insulin and if you do, it is not such a big deal. The whole process is very scary but not that uncommon.
Keep up your spirits and keep those babies cooking. sending a whole bunch of positive thoughts your way. :yahoo:

    Hello!

Sorry to hear about the funneling and gestational diabetes! Learning about both of those things and then being put on bedrest is a lot to handle! I don't have funneling or GD, but I can relate to bedrest. I have been on bedrest for 10 weeks now!! I was put on bedrest at 16 weeks (I'm 26 weeks now) for growth discordance in our identical twin girls. I am also on a high protein diet (3 protein shakes per day on top of eggs, beef, milk, cheese, etc.), and I go to the pool daily for hydrotherapy (I stand in the water and it's supposed to increase blood flow and therefore nutrients to the placenta).

My husband has been amazingly supportive. We don't have any other kids to take care of, but he is still doing a ton of stuff around the house, cooking delicious healthy meals, and taking care of our puppy.

I would suggest that you try and form a routine for yourself--scheduling your days. Make sure you get dressed--that helps a lot. I have work that I do, alternating with knitting, reading, a nap, snacks, and meals. The time really does seem to pass!

I am hoping to be on bedrest for at least one more month and hopefully more!! So I'll be here if you want to chat! :)

    hi lenka,
i'm on the same boat, expecting twins 3/16/09...i got gestational diabetes in early Dec 2008 on my 28th week...then found out my cervix had gone down from 2.6 to 1.8 to .8cm in 3 weeks...i was admitted between my 29th/30th week since i was having contractions but wasn't aware of it...i was in the hospital from 12/24/08 to 1/06/09 in which i had 3 false alarms, had the steroid shots for the twins lung development and was put on mag sulfate twice before stabilizing and was getting insulin shots as necesary.
now in home bedrest...doing my glucose monitoring 4x day and on medication to manage contractions...so far so good. it helps to have a schedule and a laptop with internet connection.
taking each day, one day at a time.
as for food, i've have adjusted to eating small meals: boiled eggs, wheat muffins, chicken/beef stew with little brown rice, salad, V8; then snack on apples, quesadilla w/slices of avocado, whole wheat bread w/either cheese or peanut butter, i was never a juice drinker...there also some sugar free cookies and chocolate that my sister gets for me and have tried kozy shack puddings for dessert.
hang in there...keep thinking good thoughts, it's all good. i'm praying for you.
