Stuck listening to the same CD in the car

I can't take it anymore!! We listen to nothing but the Curious George soundtrack in the car. If I try to put on something else, Bea whines "Sing George! Sing George!" until I put it on. Every once in a while I can tell her George needs to take a rest, but 90% of the time, it's all George, all the time. I'm in the car with them a couple times a day, and usually the only time I am in the car is with the kids. Yes, it could be worse, could be Barney or something truly awful, but it's getting so old. I miss listening to NPR or some other music. Should I just do CIO of sorts and put something else on?

I'm right there with you! We have a DVD player in the truck and they insist on watch it every time we get in the vehicle. There favorite DVD is The Laurie Berkner band (sp?), its a childrens music DVD. All I ever listen to anymore is her, boy I really miss adult music. :( I just deal with it, I guess I'd rather listen to that then them crying. :)

This is exactly the reason why I have never put a children's cd in my car. K&K also like to have the same cd over and over but thank goodness it is a Terri Clark one that I love (thanks KrisW, we are still listening to the same cd after how many years?)! When we went to one of the TS East Coast gatherings we listened to the same cd, the entire thing, 7 times!

Anyway, I think I would work on everyone gets a turn. We do this in the car and each of us gets to choose one song, sometimes I allow changes of cd (depends on the driving conditions etc) while other times they have to choose from the cd that is already playing. It works for us, might be a challenge for you since this has how it has always been for us and it will be a huge adjustment for them.

    Good luck!

LOL, I'll remember NOT to get the curious george cd!

We're stuck with "100 Bible songs and . . ." (I don't remember it all) and whenever I turn to the radio or it was on the radio when they weren't in, it's that horrendous whine/cry "I want arky arky!"

Totally know what you're going through.

We did find another one that was similar, but not the same tunes over and over and over. Maybe you can find another thrilling CD!

    I am a believer of "I am the parent"......whatever I want, I get......LOL

I would just listen to what I wanted....the kids will survive listening to "something else"

We went through that, at some point you have to just say, "oops, forgot that one..." and go on and never bring it back in the car again!!! Seriously!

We are stuck with Destiny's Child's Greatest Hits!!!! It is the only thing that calms them down when they get fussy in the car. I am heading back east for 2 weeks and if I forget that CD we are going to be in BIG trouble!!

They absolutely love They Might Be Giants , Here come the ABCs CD. Luckily they are one of my favorite bands and they don't have to have it all the time. But they will ask for it.

I agree with everyone gets a turn. I seem to play Wiggles over and over and over in my car. At least I have 4 different Wiggles cds in my car but it does get tired quickly and I just put my music on. Often I will start out with my music and wait till they are getting a little antsy. Fortunately, my girls are pretty darn good in the car. Now if I could just get one of those strollers with a built in cd player life would be fantastic!!

I have New Edition "All the Number Ones" in my cd player. The first song is "Candy Girl", but we sing Meggie Girl. Both of the kids request it constantly and she sings along to the whole thing (even the rap portions). Yesterday, she let us go beyond that first song and she was bopping along to all the songs, mostly the New Edition and Bobby Brown songs. It's so cute to see their heads bobbing to the music.

It's a phase. I can so remember it! It's sad when you know all the words to "The Wiggles" CD or "Laurie Berkner"...both favorites for our boys.

Since 3yrs +, the boys really seem to love "adult" music. They jam in the back seat to my favorite CD's. It's so funny to hear them singing the words. Their favorite song.(they request over and over when we are in the car right now) is..."Gwen Stephani's "Escape". They want to hear it over and over. Hang in there. They will start liking "your" music before you know it. Then as tweens and teenagers..they start liking stuff that you won't like. ;)

That's about the only other thing we can listen to besides George, sometimes Bea is OK with that. Ainsley doesn't get obsessive with listening/watching the same thing over and over like Bea does. I am a big time TMBG fan so I bought it more for me :D They love "Letter/Not a Letter".
I also tricked Bea into listening to some other Jack Johnson CD's besides George, told her they were "new George songs". It's only worked a couple times.

Mine ask for the Red Hot Chili Peppers every single time we're in the car. I think the obsession started in utero because when I was pregnant with them I listened to their By The Way CD for 9 months straight. Now they ask for either that CD or Stadium Arcadium disk 1 (with Dani California and Snow). They know all the words, they dance to it, they sing it in the house without the cd. And, they have an obsession with Flea. They think that he's really funny!

I don't mind so much because they're my favorite band but every once in a while I like to listen to other things too. Last week I had brought the cd into the house and it 'accidentally' wound up staying there for a few days. Absence makes the heart grow fonder!!

Well my twins don't get a chance to listen to anything because we have to listen to High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens, or Hannah Montana now for my 6.5 year old.

But we have always had the rule regarding the DVD player that we don't watch movies unless we are going on a long trip, 45 min. each way. My sister puts in a DVD anytime they get in the car, even just going to the mall. I want my children to not have to rely on movies for anytime we get in the car. So DVD's are for long trips only.

However, I don't have any problem sharing the radio and listening to CD's.

Ha, that is why I have never played any children's music in the car. I always listen to NPR in the car and I've never gotten any arguments. I think my husband does play music when they'r ein the car, but definitely not children's music. <whisper> We don't even own any children's music.

But yeah, if it went on like that I'd have to pull the "Oh we don't have that one today!" then put up with the crying and move on.

We don't have a DVD player in the car. Wish we did with a 3 hr trip coming up! I tried the taking turns thing on our little morning run to WalMart and it worked! I said it's mommy's turn to pick music, so I listened to some Abba off the iPod, and on the way back I let Bea pick and of course she picked George, so next time we're in the car it's Ainsley's turn. They are just getting the concept of taking turns so I think this might work. I hope!

This is exactly what we had to do and it was the Curious George CD. Too funny. ow we have Henry Mancini's Pink Panther and Baby Elephant Walk.

Glad to hear the taking turns is working. It may not get you completely away from the songs they like but it will at least create some variety!

That's funny-- sounds like my 8 year old's choices!

I do as PP mentioned, rotate. With 4 kids they have to learn to take turns AND I need some of my music once in a while, too.

We have six CD's in our CD changer and they are all for the girls. (We also have a single CD player that we use to listen to our music if we don't have the girls with us.) They have Jack's Big Music Show, Best of Elmo, Veggie Tales Lullabies, Toddlers Sunday School Songs, Backyardigans, and the Lion King broadway soundtrack. They go through stages where they'll ask for the same thing every time we get into the car (right now it's Lion King) and sometimes they kind of argue about what they want to listen to but they never get really mad at each other and it's really kind of funny. We are a very musical family, though, so DH and I don't mind since there is variety between all those CD's and we just love to hear them sing along with the songs.

I think I'm glad I don't have a CD player in the car ;) (it's an old car). I mostly listen to NPR or music on the radio. Also, the girls are not quite old enough to request specific things -- though if Sarah starts chanting "na na na na" it usually means she wants someone to sing the Chicken Dance. :D

I have been thinking I should get a CD player, though, because then I would know some of the songs they know. I have to ask the daycare teachers what their favorites are, and then get them to teach me the hand movements (for "Itsy Bitsy Spider," etc.)

Funny about TMBG -- I like them, but Here Come the ABCs kind of gets on my nerves. It would be OK if we were actually listening to it, but since the girls chatter all the time, it winds up being background noise, and it doesn't work so well that way.

All they'll listen to in the car is one of our CDs from Music Together class, and we ALWAYS have to start at track 1. Since we mostly go on short rides, it means we listed to the first 5 or 6 songs over and over and over.

Last time we went on a long ride (2.5 hours) we got through much of the CD and finally started dozing off during one of the lullabies, so I put it on repeat. Once they were asleep we tried to put on something else, but they woke right up! So we ended driving for about 1.5 hours with a kids lullaby playing over and over and over and over . . .

Fortunately I really don't mind the music, but it is getting a little boring. For some reason they're happy to have a variety of music on at home, just not in the car.

We alternated between 2 Backyardigans CDs for several months until I bought them a Laurie Berkner CD for their birthday. My trick is to only buy kids' music that I can stand! (No Barney or Wiggles here!) I just learn all the songs and sing along with them. They love it. Nicki especially is very much into music these days. I think they were a little tired of the Backyardigans, too, because they were very excited about getting the "Buzz Buzz" CD for their birthday.

After I drop them off at daycare in the morning, I switch to NPR and get my grown-up radio fix. I do kind of miss grown-up music, but I haven't found a music station I like since I moved back to L.A.
