Stuck just doing laundry every morning?

Izak was waking up dry for about a week so we decided to put him in underwear and give it a go. Did good the first day and well, that was about it. Sleeps through wetting the bed and wakes up wet every morning now. Tried to put him back in a pull-up and he throws this ginormous fit about wanting to wear underwear. So the cycle goes.

Should I continue to push for the pull-up at night or am I doomed to a morning load of laundry every day till he gets it?

And for those of you that experienced something like this ... how long did it take for that little "pee-sensor" kick in??

Please tell me it will kick in.

Could you try waking him up before you go to bed so he can go potty?

My boys rarely wake up in the middle of the night to go pee and every now and then they do have accidents. I do hear them waking between 6-7 a.m. to go and then will go back to bed until I go in their rooms to get them up for the day.

Goodnights has come out with bedpads that go on top of the sheets. I saw them at Walmart a week or so ago.

Get the chucks pads like you can get at the hospital. Or, alternately, you can lay a super thick/absorbent bath sheet over the sheets.

You can also get the goodnights "underwear". They aren't exactly pullups but will work like a pullup. Or, get some of the thicker cotton training underwear for overnights.

As for when it kicks it, it really depends on each kid. My oldest son and daughter night trained around age 3.5. My twins are nearly 3.5 and my daughter could be night trained, I'll probably try her soon since she's consistently dry in her pullup at night. My twin son isn't even day trained yet, he's just not getting it, and he's soaking wet every morning.

Just a warning: I read the reviews on Amazon (because I could not find them in stores) and the biggest complaint was that they are VERY sticky and almost impossible to remove from the sheets.

I'm not sure if they would work by just laying them over the sheet without attaching, but it may be worth a try. :unknw:

I am going to be the mean voice of dissent and say that I would put him back in pull-ups (unless the pads/goodnights underwear are no more expensive than pull-ups but I bet they are). Him throwing a tantrum about it would not change my mind at all if he was wetting every day. I would of course explain to him it isn't a punishment, just that staying dry overnight is something his body needs to grow a bit bigger to do and until it does he has to wear a pull up to keep his sheets clean.

We used lined rubber pants over underwear for initial training. They contain pretty well that you might not need to change the bedding. We bought ours at Target or BRU.

DS still wets the bed somenights, so everynight before I go to bed, I get him up and take him for a pee. He rarely wets if I do that. I bought him underjams for when we travel, just because I know that he may be out of wack and have an accident and I don't want that happening in someone else's bed. I don't call the underjams diapers either.

I would insist on the pull up until you see 14 days in a row of dry nights. While many kids are dry at 3, some are still not dry for much longer. You can just tell him that his body might not be ready yet.

May be a stupid question....but do you allow him to drink after dinner time?

We started limiting the amount of fluids they were consuming after dinner and I would also wake the kids in the middle of the night (around 11pm) take them to the toilet and back to bed they go....

I would do pullups too. Its just not worth it to do laundry every morning. My 7 kids ranged in age of 2-6 before they night trained. My DS was the latest and he just sleeps really soundly and never woke up to pee. It didn't matter if I withheld liquids, woke him up at night ect. When his body was ready he stayed dry.

I never did underwear with my kids at night until they were dry for at least 2 weeks. I'd go back to pull-ups no matter the fit thrown. The child obviously sleeps sound and does not wake up to pee. It's not his fault. He has no control at night at this point.

Kiefer was very good about not wetting the bed. Only has had one accident. Cameron on the other hand, has them even now. We have discovered that two things work well for him. No liquids after dinner, is one, and he MUST pee before finally going to bed. That means, I read him his books, turn off his lights, get him calmed, then tell him he needs to go potty one last time before laying down or he might pee his pants during sleeping time. He HATES when he wets himself, and he knows he will sleep through it. It's worked out very well so far. He'll resist going pee some nights, but he's learned that the nights he doesn't pee before laying down, he wakes up in a wet bed. Tonight, I have made the error of letting him have a tiny sip of water before laying down, so I am prepared to have a wet bed tomorrow or some time during the night. He's gotten very good at changing his own jammies and underpants at least, but he's still not sure how to change the wet sheets. He'll wake me up for that one. Still better than his usually screams of frustration and embarrassment that he'd usually do when he wet his bed.

If Izak (love that spelling!) still wets himself after trying that (assuming you haven't before), then I would try the training underwear you can find at some supermarkets or target/Babies-r-us. There are many different kinds, but the idea is to make them look and feel like regular underwear while giving the extra protection of a diaper. It's a win-win situation! Some even allow your boy to feel being wet, but it won't soak the sheets so his body can learn the feeling of needing to pee before he actually let's it all go.
